Backyard Baby, Kona Solids, and Show and Tell

I just love the Backyard Baby fabric line by designer Patty Sloniger. As soon as I saw it I knew I had to have it for David Platt's Quilt, born January 31, 2012 to our family. But when it arrived I did not want to cut it because I was AFRAID. Have you ever had that happen? I needed a pattern or something to make sure I didn't mess up. I looked at it for days planning. What to do and how to do it.

I had a visual of what I wanted, but not how I would lay it out. So this is what I did. Do you like it? I have to take it to my friend, Irene, to quilt it for me. Why? Because I don't know how YET.

I love it! Hope you do to. During the creative process, I found Kona Solid fabrics by Robert Kaufman, the fabrics are vibrant, have that designer feel and looks beautiful with any print. It is sold all over the internet and at Jo-Ann's. I am so happy, because surprise I am a coupon cutter, so Jo-ann's is one of my favorite places to shop with a 40% off coupon. Yipee!

So now I am slowly building my solid stash because almost every quilt needs some solid. I have some coming in the mail soon!

Show and tell about the Fugly Parties

The Swaps

The last is a giveaway from fabrics from Japan so cool

Thank you for stopping by the boon docks. Do you use Kona Solids in your projects? Where do you shop for them? I always love to hear from you.

Busy, Busy Week - Sewing

Wow, what a week with the Fugly Fabric Giveaways and Swaps. I made 3 trips to the post office but did not buy any fabric. I held my first giveaways and chose to winners - Richard and Lorelei. I won 2 giveaways myself (it is so exciting). I will show what I won, when they get here. I swapped the extra Fugly fabric I had with people in the USA the United Kingdom. When all the fabric swaps arrives I will post them for you to see. I am glad to have meet so many new friends from out in blogyourself next time.

Then I made my Blocks for Craftsy Block of the Month for February. I learned how to make a Balkan Puzzle Block, and Magic Triangles (make 4 HST at one time) cool way to do a Half Square Triangle (HST)
This block is called Chunky Chevron and is made with HST's, using the draw line method. I have used this method many times before, for making 2 blocks at a time. Amy Gibson at Stitchery Dickery Dock, is amazing in her tutorials, or (tuts) as the bloggers call them.

I really love Burp Cloths as Baby Gifts for new parents. With so many babies being born to the babies I watched grow into adulthood. I made a lot of them this last week. Great way to use up scraps of flannel and cute fabrics from a swap. I did not pay a penny for any of this fabric, and used it all up. See!

So much fun, I was scared to blog during the Fugly Fabric because someone might not find me, and I wanted to be found. If you are like me and have problems matching colors for blocks take a look at the In Color Order blogsite. I made it easy for you, I put a button at the bottom of the blog to get there. She has great advise and knowledge about colors and organizing. A blogger was kind enough to teach me how to insert buttons..Buttons are fun..Now if I can learn the HTML way to link to other blocksites. It is all a learning curve.

Brent & Mary Johnson 50th Anniversary

I was really lucky when I married my husband, Randall Johnson, I got in the deal a set of terrific inlaws. They are both supportive and loving people. As a woman on a second marriage with 2 children, ages 11 and 6, they accepted us as a part of their family from the start. My daughters are now grown and we have the honor of raising our beautiful grandson.

Now 14 1/2 years later I was really excited for them on February 1, 2012, when they reached their 50 wedding anniversary. In a world where most marriages don't work out, these two made it work. Through a war, stressful jobs, children, moves, and the other hard times two people face living together for 50 years. I wanted them to have the party they so richly deserved but had no idea where to start. I was also blessed by the rest of my husband's family. Geri Baker jumped in and handled so many details that if not for her, Brent and Mary would not have a party, but a cake. Without Darlene Finley, I would not have known what we needed to eat, the woman should be a party planner, her mom, Aunt Jewel stood in the church kitchen making sandwichs for 2 hrs before the party. Faye Chapman opened the church and helped to setup. Darlene and her sister, Tammy Browning, helped with food, setup, serving and cleanup. Justin Browning and his fiancee, Breanna King helped with cleanup. Angie Barker made the most beautiful 50th anniversary scrapbook I have ever seen. All the people who helped with food, I never had to ask anyone to bring a thing, they asked me "what do you want me to bring": Geri Baker, Darlene Finley, Aunt Rita Johnson, Sandy Porter, Opal Jones, Tammy Browning, Pat Childers, Leeann Bills, and my handsome husband, Randall Johnson. Enon Baptist Church Paster Sam and his wife, Nada Morris for their advice and use of the church. I want to say I love you all and THANK YOU for making such an important day so wonderful for Brent & Mary. Not all these people are related by blood, but they are my church family. Because of all of you Brent and Mary had a day to remember.

Baby Twin Goats

Sparkles our mother goat had twins while we took our grandson to see the Monster Jam in Charleston WV today. This has been a very busy week for me with my inlaws 50th wedding anniversary, Cabell County CEOS, David Platt's birth, and now not one but two babies born to Sparkles. Sparkles 1st baby born last February is due any day now. So, more babies to come or at least one.
