Trying to Finish 2012

Image
I got the Library Bag (perfect for carrying 2 or 3 books) done for my Mom in time for Christmas! She was really surprised Christmas morning and loves it. It truly made me happy to please her. I love these strange women knitting! Sorry the boon docks blog has been quiet lately with school out we play to much XBox and try out all the new stuff my favorite 7 year old received. A child grows up so fast you just have to stop to play. Even when you have no idea what your doing a kid thinks it is great just to have your attention. Thank you for your understanding. I think he had a great Christmas! I am trying to catch up with my Scrappy? Sew bee it! Flickr group! I have worked on these 16 blocks today and hopefully will complete them by tomorrow! That way I will only be one month behind! Low Volume blocks for Rosa! She wants a quilt like Rita's @ Red Pepper Quilts I find Rita's blog very inspirational! Definitely worth a look! I plan to post my finishes for 2012 and g

My lovely blog friend Betty Lou American Vintage Quilts aka Sugarland Quilts is a traditional quilter and really creates beautiful things. She is on Santa's nice list this year! I got a great Christmas gift in the mail yesterday! It cheered me up and I think maybe made me feel a little better! Thank you so much Betty Lou, Hugs and stitches to you too! Lynette Jensen has created fabrics, patterns, and books, under the Thimbleberries name for more than 25 years. You can find Lynette at The Berry Blog by Thimbleberries and on Facebook. I have always loved the look and feel of Thimbleberries fabrics. Now I have (4) beautiful kits with patterns and fabric to make in 2013! One kit only needs the quilting and binding and it is done and it is so pretty! Going on my table! What wonderful gifts! (2) wall hanging kits and (2) table runners I am so ready to be well again and start sewing! I do have (5) project goals for 2013 now. Thanks again Betty Lou! Are you working on yours

What is going on this Wednesday

In the summer months David, Momma, and I hit the yard sales. I love to buy bags of fabric for really cheap! When I go through it later I pick out what I might want and share the rest. This summer I got a bag for $1.00 that had some pieces to make ducks and geese. Some vintage fabric and (2) unstuffed animals: a bear and a cat. I gave everything away but the bear and cat. Using some child labor and cartoons, David and I stuffed both of them two days before Thanksgiving. My cousin's family was coming for the holiday and his wife loves cats. David was so proud to give Teresa a gift he helped make and she really loves it. The bear is in our living room as a decoration (he had slept in David's room until 3 days ago). The point I am trying to get at is if you invest $1.00 and find 1 thing you can use it is worth it. I have the memory of the time spent creating with my boy that my friends is " priceless "! Something Constructive to do with our Grief/Prayer Chain

I am sorry folks for being such a mess the last few days! This post is to give me something positive to do! Blogs all over are trying to find something to help out! I have made pillowcases for the last 2 years for kids in hospitals and have seen first hand how it does cheer them up. So lets all spend a couple hours making the surviving children pillowcases at Sandy Hook School. Just make happy pillowcases and mail it/them to the Quilters Corner. Postage for a single pillowcase is not much and maybe we will feel better because we did something! Pillowcases for Kids of Sandy Hook Elementary Jackie from Canton Village Quilt Works passed this info along: Help the families in Newtown... Here is how... Becky at Quilters Corner in New Milford, CT is collecting pillowcases for the children at Sandy Hook School. She is trying to collect around 600. Please pass this message to any sewing friends. Pillowcases can be mailed to her at Quilters Corner 312 Danbury Rd. New Milford, CT. 06776

Twister Quilted

Image
Well last week I am working a throw quilt for my new granddaughter to be born in January. I finished the top on Monday! I call it a throw quilt because I want it thrown on the floor/ground before the baby is put down on the floor or in the grass outside. Put it on the couch before you put the baby on it. A quilt you can take in the car and wash it when you get home. A barrier between the baby and the world. A baby wrapped in love! Yes, it is a little sappy! It started out as 10" x 10" square and a 6 1/2" border. Using the "Twister" Ruler by The Country Schoolhouse /CS Designs, I cut it up and sewed it back together! Instructions come with the ruler. This is my wonderful model/husband pretending to be the guy hanging his nose over the fence. I embroidered her name! Please disregard those strings I took care of them. Guess what? When you have that many pins and start to sew you get stabbed over and over again! Then basting and pinning. A longtime quilt

Hobo Bag Finished

Image
A UFO that had been hanging around for months got finished this week! Yippee! I used Tula Pinks fabric line "Nightshade". The first time I saw Tula's pirate girl all I could see was my oldest daughter when she was little. She really wanted to be a pirate or a ninja turtle. Now, at 27 she is an independent beautiful woman living in NY state. So maybe she will think of me when she uses this to carry her groceries. It is quite big, my mother said big bags like this where called "hobo bags" in the 60's. Above is the inside, Nightshade Apothecary in Vapor, with two big pockets, Nightshade Spider Blossom in Vapor. Below is the back! I used Nightshade Raven Lace on the strap and opening. Nightshade Storm Clouds for the back and front. This is the appliquéd front of Netunia Von Black from Nightshade Coven in Vapor. The model is Joyce my very helpful Mom! Who said the bag could just stay here! I packed it up and will mail it tomorrow with my daughter'

This is why I love participating in Flickr Swap Groups . I received a package in the mail the other day from the secret partner who got my name this round. There are thousands of swap groups going on at the Flickr site always needing people to join. Modern Scrappy Bits is in round 2 and I am hoping there will be a round 3! Danielle was responsible for sending me one fat quarter of scraps and a handmade item of her choice and she made me this beautiful mini quilt. So happy with her handmade, she is very talented. Thank you so much Danielle! This is the backing fabric! Sorry, don't know the name of it but it is really pretty! Modern scraps - oh how I love all these little pieces! Danielle sent me a wide range of scraps and definitely more than a fat quarter! Yippee fun! I like this so much because some I may not have ever boughten for myself but once I see them, I love them. On the other side, I might have it on my list of wanting at end of season, when they go on sale, a
