Let's Get Acquainted New Blogger Blog Hop & Giveaway

Welcome to "In The Boon Docks"! The wait is over it is finally my week in the blog hop. I have made lots of new good friends. Thank you Beth from plume and june this has been a great experience meeting other bloggers and learning more about being one with terrific tips and tricks from seasoned veteran of the internet. Unbelievable resources from the best. I have enjoyed the last seven weeks tremendously. Again, Thank you!

So what do I blog about at "In The Boon Docks"? Everything! I will give you a little sampling of my life here! I hope you enjoy it!

This beautiful buck stood maybe 30 feet away as I snapped pictures of him eating his dinner off my back porch!

"Rusty" the rooster is a free ranger. He has 2 hens and 2 chicks that run our outdoor property.

We have three hens that should be laying starting in August for fresh eggs! These ladies live in a hen house built for them raised from chicks by me and David.

We grow a garden and help my husband's parents with their garden. I am a picker! I pick beans, cherries and anything else they ask me. I love my in-laws very much! I also freeze fruits and vegetables for the Winter months. I love canning jams and jellies! I did 16 - 1/2 pints of peach jam on Tuesday and Wednesday this week.

"Quilters Candy Unwrapped". Is a look into todays fabric lines and what you can create with 2 1/2" blocks. It is a monthly series with giveaways provided by the blog's sponsor Kim from the Fat Quarter Shop.

"Stitch on Prints" is type of embroidery using Aurifil 12 wt. thread on printed fabric. Hand stitching to create textures and highlight focal points. Then using them in bags, pouches, mug rugs, mini quilts, and sharing. This monthly series is sponsored by Aurifil with giveaways.

I love participating in blog hops and giving things away!

I love fabric and sewing!

I love piecing quilts and will be learning more about the quilting part in the Fall. These are a few of the quilts I have made!

Just a little purse for a girl

We are off for a week to visit our oldest daughter at the beach! Our little David is excited to see his mother. Currently, she is the nanny for her best friends daughter, who turned 5 a few days ago.

I chose to make up a paper pattern to follow. To show you how easy it is 4 fabrics and a homemade pattern.
The fabric is Lecien - lovely Punch Girls, given to me by a very nice woman, Mary from the WVMQG.

Sample fabric packs only has one piece of each print. So each part of this little purse is a different.

I used a tiny magnetic snap. Which I deconstructed off a purse last month! Recycle!

I am hoping she will like it! What little girl doesn't like Panda's? Just in case I but $5 in the change purse I made to go with it.

Have a great week everyone! I am going to no WiFi land so possible no posts, mail anything until Monday.

Until next time, create and be unique, Lisa

Le Challenge - Toffee

Welcome to In The Boon Docks!

Hi! I am Lisa, wife, mother, grandmother, veteran, and artist. In a rural area of West Virginia, USA, my family and I, live with 3 dogs, 8 chickens, a squirrel, and miscellaneous deer (they live in our woods). We grow, can, and freeze, both fruits and vegetables. I will admit I am a awful cook but my husband is a culinary student.

I love to blog, blog hop, swap, sew, quilt, crochet, knit, and just about any DIY project. I am a fabric and Aurifil thread lover! Hopefully, some of the things I write about here will interest you and keep you entertained. If so, please leave a comment occasionally and follow.

Why am I telling you all this at the Monthly Le Challenge? I see a lot of new blogs each month and I figure if I don't know you, you probably don't know me! A little introduction into the happenings at "In The Boon Docks".

Now for Le Challenge

Here is a toffee photo I borrowed from Kessa's post! Looks yummy but a craft project?

When I first heard "Toffee" I thought I would be sitting this month out. I wondered where do they come up with this stuff. Then I remembered Lucy was involved and sometimes she has me laughing so hard, I almost ...You get the idea! Then came an email from Kessa and I saw her inspirations using the color Toffee. I started running around the house collecting up my crocheting, my photo fabric, and my iPad! I had just finished this scarf for this coming Winter last week. In what color you ask? Toffee! I have my entry for this month. Thank you Kessa!

My Work in progress hat!

I am linking up with Le Challenge!

Please check out all of the other toffee themed projects this month at Le Challenge, just click on the picture and it will take you to the linky party! Next months theme comes out tomorrow! So maybe you might want to join us and play! It is very fun seeing everyone's interpretations of the monthly theme.

Vintage Dress or not?

Vintage Baby Dress?

I picked up this lovely little (size 9/12 months) handmade linen dress at Goodwill. My Mom and I think that it is old! If you have ever seen the fabric or pattern please let me know!

A closer look at the print!

My beautiful wiggly model came to visit for the weekend. I was so excited to see her wear The dress! Being handmade with no tag, I was uncertain if it would fit Zoey but it was worth $1.75 even it it didn't. One day when I have a sewing room I will hang it on the wall! It is just so cute.

How's this picture? It is really difficult to photograph someone who is moving all the time. In this one I think I just wore her down.

I am serious I would love to know anything about this fabric! Please leave a comment if you have seen this linen fabric. If you think it is new or old? Thank you for your help.

Until next time, create and be unique! Lisa

My first label and a winner

What a great feeling ironing my very first label onto a quilt I made, even if it is a mini!

Sara was very helpful and the labels really are not expensive!

You can find out more about ordering your own

When I did my design changes I messed up numbering comments so I am working on fixing that little problem!

Lets see who won the Aurifil Sampler Pack

Working on next months "Stitch on Prints". I love this child's print but it came in a scrap pack, so no info on it.

Lorax is back - I cut the 10" blocks out for more blocks!

A finish - Woo hoo! The Aspen Frost mini quilt I was hand stitching here is all binded and done.

I have to admit, I need more practice on my stitches!

Country Live In The Boon Docks

Well this time of year it is hard to get much sewing done when it is harvest time. We have had so much rain here this season that the fruit trees are breaking under the strain of all the fruit. Two weeks ago we picked sour cherries and pitted and froze them. This week it is green beans. The vines are molding around the beans so it is pick them or loose them. In two days my mother and I picked three 5 gallon buckets full of green beans for my mother-in-law to can. That was only two rows of plants with lots of green beans.

It is muddy hot work! It is amazing how the ones in the store all look so pretty and mine are covered in mud. But the hard part has just begun my MIL will clean and can 40 quarts before it is all done. Enough to feed two families all Winter without having to buy processed and loaded with preservatives store can beans. So it is worth every bit of effort put in by our two families.

Do you do beans?

How about Chickens?

Sometimes it is good to stock your free range chickens to see how they are doing. I did just that and have a few pictures of my Rooster, Rusty, Momma hen and her 2 babies! I have another hen but she is camera shy! But she is doing just fine!

I know you can hardly see them! Need to mow the hillside again! But if you really look they are there.

Don't forget the giveaway HERE if you haven't signed up yet!

Thank you for stopping by!

Until next time, create and be unique, Lisa

Stitch on Prints and Aurifil

Giveaway Closed

Congratulations to the winner KT!
I have already emailed the winner.

You can enter this giveaway until July 12, 2013 noon, EST. Because I had the end date wrong!

Sorry, my mistake!

Welcome to "Stitch on Prints"

I am loving the new fabrics coming out! Two of my new favorites are Aspen Frost and Boo Crew!

Jenny Hart of Sublime Stitching , This ain't your gramama's embroidery, has offered us the use of her Hand Embroidery Tutorials! Is she not awesome!

Sublime Stitching is Jenny's store and full of everything you might need for embroidery. Thank you Jenny!

Aspen Frost

On the Aspen Frost mini tumbler quilt, I decided I wanted to used a straight stitch to hand quilt it. I need some more practice as you can see my lines are not always as straight as I would like them.

Boo Crew

I just love to stitch on the monster print! If you look carefully where I used French Knot for some of their eyes. Then using the Back Stitch
in their hair! Giving them texture and a little 3D effect!

Our awesome friends at Aurifil have provided a sampler package of thread for the Giveaway. I use Aurifil 12 wt. thread for all my hand stitching.

This giveaway is open to all! It ends on July 11, 2013! If you are a no-reply blogger leave an email!

1. The question is: What new fabric do you have your eye on?
Edit - 2. If you leave me a link in the comments to a stitching you did!
(No link, no entry)
3. All followers get an entry because without you where would I be?

Three possible chances to win!
