Turkey's Anyone

Every year we eat Thanksgiving Dinner at Mammaw & Pappaw's house and each year we are digging through drawers for enough pot holders for all the food to be put on the table. Recently, while destashing I found this Thanksgiving & pinecone fabric and thought I would make some pot holders for Mammaw. I went out and bought a few yards of Insul-Bright and Warm & Natural cotton batting, by The Warm Company, and went to work.

First I made (4) small pot holders!
Then I had a bright idea!
We needed a giant pot holder, so what about a runner with Insul-Bright in between (4) layers of cotton batting, to put the hot food on the table! It would look nice and would take care of the problem.

Roosters & Chickens

I fell in love with Urban Farm and bought it to make a quilt for David but Hubby said it had to many flowers! I have held onto it for the perfect project and when I found out about the blog hop I knew this was it!
It just needed a few more birds!

By adding a rooster and a few hens with eggs (of course) using appliqué. Each row of hens has their own rooster! Now, hubby really loves this quilt and so do I. The light was fading and I needed a photo before the sun went down so you may see a few wonder clips from my unfinished binding (12"). What is a girl to do! Get the picture when the light is there that's what!

  1. I think I would like to have time for Christmas. Uninterrupted time to sew and create with all the fabric and patterns I have. I would also like to start a wool project for Christmas too. What a fun question. Really cute table runner and quilt. Glad you found what you wanted to finish the big quilt with. Thanks- K-

  2. Love the runner hot pad idea - we just use lots of wood cutting mats, but this is so much prettier. ANd the quilt is so full of cute fabrics. I don't have any Christmas wish - I know I will be spending the day with my children and their children - that's a good day.

  24. I would like to have a new sewing machine to replace my everyday machine. I have been sewing with my old reliable back-up machine but, Santa, I REally would LOVe a Janome MemoryCrafter 6000P with a purple trolley. To be honest, I have NOT been a good girl all the time. I have eaten things I should not and spoken harshly to people I love. But If I had a new sewing machine, I would have less interest in boredom eating I and I would not have "broken sewing machine" mood to inspire me to be ill-tempered.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Great runner, I have always thought that it would be a good idea to have a big potholder on the table so you could fit all of the dishes but have never made one. 112. Hi Lisa,
Your idea of an insulated table runner is brilliant! It makes so much sense. Since I am totally new to quilting, I decided I would practice and in doing so, make pot holders. Good, right? Well, I thought so....found out about InsulBright on a video. So while at JoAnn's I asked for it. Mind you I was in a wheelchair with tons of fabric bolts being cut to quarter yards or half yards, some 2 yards, yada, yada, yada. So one of the clerks got it for me. Once I got home, I found out it was ironing board cover, you know the bright silver stuff under the ironing board cover. So, what I need to know is .... What is Insul Bright, how is it packaged, and any idea if I can get it at JoAnn's or do I need to order it online, or travel a ways to an actual quilting shop. Thought you might be the one to ask, thanks. Also thanks for the blog hops. We all appreciate the time it takes to have a blog, and I love reading them, although by doing the Give Thanks Blog Hop I've found a lot of new blogs I'd like to keep up with, which will cut I to sewing time, oh the horrors!! I'll just have to save them for the days my body needs to rest, and do it those days, not daily. Problem solved, yay! Hope you have a blessed Thanksgiving and a fabulous fabric filled Christmas season.
