  1. My latest oops was similar to yours only I sewed a piece of paper that was left on my table to the back of a lap quilt I was quilting. Luckily it was easy to tear off, I didn't have to take any stitches out.

  2. Yes, I follow you via GFC. Thanks for the chance.

    ReplyDelete
  3. My oops was caused by my lazy self not marking a sewing line. It went wonky and I had to un-sew the whole line, mark it and re-sew it.

    ReplyDelete
  4. I make ooops all the time! My most recent would be to sew the right side outwards so when I turned the bib right side out I saw that my fabric was showing the wrong side! Oops!

    ReplyDelete
  5. I am definitey a follower of your blog! An AMAZING giveaway!!!

    ReplyDelete
  6. I sadly haven't been able to sew that much lately so no recent opps! Although they do happen quite often when I do have the time to sew!

  7. Thanks for the giveaway, Lisa. My sewing oops--I forgot to change my bobbin thread from a dark to white and didn't notice until I had sewed quite a few squares.

    ReplyDelete
  8. I am definitely one of your followers.

  12. I happily follow your blog on GFC.

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  14. Mine was piecing the fabrics wrongly...i hate ripping the seams!

    THANK YOU!

  18. Fabulous! :D Thank you!

Haven't had many ooopses lately because there hasn't been much sewing... but I did once try to make an awesome pencil skirt and it ended up a straight tube the size of my waist with no room for my hips! AH! That didn't work out so well ;)

    ReplyDelete
  19. I had an almost oops yesterday when I almos cut the skirt of a silk dress I am making 10cm smaller of the last bit of fabric I have left. Lucky my sewing class teacher thought I should measure twice before cutting into such nice fabric! Thanks for the chance to win.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Boys I am having a great day filling out all these give away's. Maybe I will be lucky and win something. Great give away.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I've done lots of oops lately, sewing things backwards, but the most recent was sewing my quilting glove to the back of a quilt, oops.

    ReplyDelete
  22. My recent oop was to forget to reverse a pattern piece when I was prepping some applique

    ReplyDelete
  23. My recent oop was yesterday cutting fabrics.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I ran out of bobbin, and I didn't realize it for far far too long.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I very carefully pieced a quilt back including a pieced block that would also be the label for the quilt. I completely screwed up the origination and created a mirror image of what I intended ... oops.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Just the usually oopses here...me, the longarm machine, and stitches I didn't like. I'd rather rip stitches and do it over than to myself every time I see the mistakes.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Latest sewing oops...cut a piece of fabric a quarter inch smaller than it was supposed to be and didn't notice until I had sewn several layers together (coasters) and the seams slipped open upon turning the whole thing around...yeah...bummer, cuz it got too small to be used as a coaster lol!

Thank you for the chance to win!

    ReplyDelete
  28. I made a queen star surround quilt and cut all the hsts 1/4" smaller than the pattern called for. I didn't have fabric to make more so I sewed smaller seams(!) and larger on the non hsts and it worked out OK. It turned out gorgeous and I just hope I quilted it enough that the narrow seams won't be able to pull out.
My favorite oops is not sewing related. I got a letter returned stamped for a better address. Not too surprising considering I had stamped it, attached my return address label and forgot to address it to anyone. I keep the letter in my bill drawer and get a laugh every time I pay my bills. Thanks

    ReplyDelete
  29. I can't think of any major oops lately, just the occasional seam that needs to be ripped out to make a block more perfect. Thanks for the great giveaway!

    ReplyDelete
  30. I do an amazing amount of oops. My latest were sewing the elastic into the front of my daughter's flat front pants. And I used the wrong shade of pink on a piece of tiny patchwork. That was quite a bit of ripping and resewing.

    Thanks for the chance!

    ReplyDelete
  31. While paper piecing, I got 2 of my 4 block segments sewn in reverse Color order. No way was I ripping it, each block goes to a different guild member. One guild member's star will now be going in different direction. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  32. My most recent oops was attaching my binding to the wrong side of my quilt. Luckily it all worked out!

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  37. I cant believe that I did this but I was paper piecing and sewed the template that I use to make the folds on my paper piecing . This is a plastic template. You would think I would have noticed my machine making a noise.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I am your follower and enjoy your blog

    ReplyDelete
  39. I am making Love Entwined. I English paper pieced the entire zigzag border only to find that the papers were too large so I had to reverse sew and reverse baste the entire thing. Then I had to trim down the papers and baste and sew everything again. Grrr!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Well, I was teaching a beginner class and I gave them the wrong measurements for a block. Lol. Oops!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Ha ha.. I have a recent sewing oops. Just this evening I sat down to make a quick sleeve for a quilt. I had cut and trimmed the piece and folded the end to sew a hem on the end. I put the needle down and started to sew. I heard a funny noise. Uh oh! I pulled the piece out and realized that I had removed the bobbin and was not only OUT of bobbin thread but there was no bobbin in the bobbin case. Luckily no sewing machine was harmed due to this error.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I trimmed and somehow manged to cut my block in half cuz it was folded over on itself and somehow I didn't notice.

    ReplyDelete
  68. My oops this week was not leaving enough fabric on my paper pieced block so it fell apart. Now to make another

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  77. I was trying to cut a piece of fabric and had other fabric on the table under it. I had lifted up the piece I was trying to cut, well not high enough apparently. I accidentally cut the fabric below. I was being lazy. Bad idea, I know. I won't make that mistake again. powersjlc at gmail dot com. Thanks for the giveaway.

    ReplyDelete
  78. My most recent sewing oops...instead of pressing open seams I scorched my hand...and now will have a scar to remind me to be careful when ironing! Thankfully the iron was so hot it didn't hurt, if that makes any sense.

    ReplyDelete
  79. My latest oops: I use fusible batting & I press it from the front first & then flip it over & press from the back - to make sure it's completely fused & I don't have any pleats on the back. On my latest quilt, I had a bad section in one corner on the back so I had to reposition the back & front to smooth out. But then I noticed what I thought were threads coming through a seam, but it was a seam that had fallen apart. I had to pick out & patch a block in that corner, while keeping the rest of the quilt fused. Thanks for the great giveaway.

  81. My biggest oops landed me in the emergency room because I kept cutting long after I was so tired that I couldnt see straight. My ruler slipped and I cut myself badly enough for seven stitches. It was a very, very valuable lesson. Now, no matter how excited I am about a project, I stop when I start getting tired.
    Thanks for the chance!

    ReplyDelete
  82. I quilted a corner of the backing fabric in when it folded over and I didn't notice. I did a lot of FMQ before I finally did notice. Lots of picking out stitched followed! Thanks for a chance to win what looks like a great book.

    ReplyDelete
  84. My latest oops didn't happen while quilting, but it has stopped me from being able to quilt for at least 6 weeks. I was going to Physical Therapy to recover from hip replacement, and I fell going up some steps, and broke my wrist! Splint up past my elbow for 4 weeks, cast for at least 2 weeks, then hand therapy!

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  93. Wow, thanks for the chance to win! I recently made a quiet book for my brand new etsy shop (about shapes) and one of the words in my book was spelled wrong! A potential customer pointed it out and I was so embarrassed.

  97. I am currently squaring up hundreds of scrappy mini bowtie blocks I made early in my quilting journey. Many 'oops' moments as I struggled to find that elusive scant quarter inch seam! It still eludes me from time to time. Ha! Thanks for the chance at your giveaway.

    ReplyDelete
  98. My sewing oops happened the other day when I was basting a quilt... for some strange reason I put the flannel on the bottom which developed a bunch of wrinkles. I had to baste the entire quilt a second time with perfect results!!

    ReplyDelete
  99. I follow you via Bloglovin' - thanks!!

    ReplyDelete
  100. Oh, haven't we all done something like that? I sewed the lining and the bag together once...and not like it should have been done. I hate ripping out seams! And like you, I put the "mess" away and go to bed because it always happens when I am trying to do one more thing late at night!

    ReplyDelete
  101. I made a border for a round robin swap. My sewing was great. The simple addition for the border was my problem. Thank you so much for sharing! Happy Thanksgiving!

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  106. About six months ago, I sewed through my finger. I have no idea how I let that happen or how I didn't pass out as soon as I realized what had happened! haha

    ReplyDelete
  108. Hello! My latest oops was unpicking my paper pieced teacup for my penny sampler class not one, or two or three times. No. I'm not going to tell the number. That wouldn't be an ooops it'd be an OMG! Hahaha

    ReplyDelete
  109. Perhaps my LATEST oops moment was when I got so carried away with what I was sewing [at the machine] that I actually ran over my finger, just a little!!! Thanks for the chance to enter.
    Cheers Gloria

  110. I don't think I've ever sewn a tablecloth or the like to anything I've been making, but I have gotten borders and backing flipped over and quilted multiple layers together. (One quilt I did it on I was too lazy to go and unpick the stitching, so I just trimmed the border in by an inch or so all around and got rid of it that way. Ridiculous.)

    ReplyDelete
  111. I had to rip out about 5000 free motion quilting stitches. I don't call them oops though, I call it Un-sewing. :) Thanks for the chance to win. Really like your blog.

  114. My funniest oops was....While working on a quilt for my grandson I had to jump up and answer the phone or the door, I don't really remember why, anyway I left my machine in the middle of a applique, power on. I got busy with something else and suddenly I hear my machine sewing. WHAT! I ran in to see what was going on and there sat my little puppy on the foot controller. He only sewed a couple of inches. Everyone suggested that I leave it. My grandson will be tickled to know that Schmit helped make his quilt.

    ReplyDelete
  115. Thanks for a great giveaway. My latest oops was this week. I was making a quilted Chrismtas stocking for my daughter, it looked lovely then I added heel and toe pieces on and finished it all off. After sewing it together with the lining and turning it the right way round I found that my heels did not line up at all, in fact they were nearly an inch out. How did that happen!

  117. My biggest pops lately was sewing thru my finger while quilting a quilt top. Luckily I didn't get any blood on the quilt.

    ReplyDelete
  118. Having gone back to work, I have been very guilty of the worst "oops" of all - not making the time to sew! When I do, I feel so much more satisfied and centered, but at the end of a long day, it is so easy to just veg out instead. :-(

    ReplyDelete
  119. I am a happy follower of your blog - thanks for the chance to win!

    ReplyDelete
  120. I have Camille's first book but not this Retro one and would love to be your winner!! my latest oops was when I looked at my completed Block of the Month from my local quilt shop and saw that the entire left corner was turned opposite from what it was supposed to be.

After ripping out that corner and turning it, sewing it, and then looking at it...I saw that I had turned it wrong AGAIN! Ackk! I finally finished that block, and now it looks good. I wasn't using my head I'm afraid! LOL!

  125. Sewing oops... you mean like having to rip out free motion quilting because I've sewn the backing over into a flap?

    ReplyDelete
  126. I haven't had an oops lately. Probably because I haven't sewn anything lately! My last one was forgetting to change the thread I was using before I started machine quilting. Lots of fun...NOT!

    ReplyDelete
  127. My oops was when I day dreamed and ran over my finger with the hopping foot of my LA machine. Luckily no needle puncture!
    Barb@Witsend

    ReplyDelete
  128. Grrr... so fresh it seems like it just happened this morning...oh wait, it did! Needed to add borders to a 10.5" block to get it to be a 12.5" block...easy right? Not when you calculate wrong and cut the strips too narrow. Sewed on wonderfully straight and pressed out smoothly only to find it was too short! Dag Nab It... it was the 3rd ripping session of the morning for an easy pattern. Gave up, walked away, read some blogs and came back. Ripped it out and put on huge pieces and cut it down to size...now it's off to it's swap partner.

    ReplyDelete
  129. I basted a quilt with a major pucker in it. The seam ripper is still waiting. Thanks for chance to win.

    ReplyDelete
  130. Lovely little story - and keeps us smiling and light-hearted.
My 'blooper' is to cut on the sewing line.... and then wonder why the sizing is all wrong... tiring - or a sign of tiredness, as you note, when you do a daft mistake that takes (sometimes) so long to fix - or changes the plan completely... hers to serendipity: new patterns and shapes that you don't see coming!!

  134. Oh, I have an answer!! My latest oops was this quilt http://yxtishka.blogspot.com/2013/11/blog-post_1.html- made for the contest Black-white+ For some reason I thought the greay color counts as between black and white7 I made my own pattern6 carefully picked fabricks with needed colors and 10 days before the finish I realized I was wrong!!!! Do I need to say how frustrated I was??? But! I still had another 10 days! And made another one - http://yxtishka.blogspot.com/2013/11/blog-post.html I love them both!

    ReplyDelete

  142. My sewing oops occurred because I live in Australia and have grown up with metric measurements (100cm = 1 metre) and then I decided to make a dress for my daughter. I worked out that I need 25 5' squares for the base, this does NOT mean that the skirt will measure 1 metre around it means the skirt will be 2.5 metres or 100" when finished!!!! THERE IS A BIG DIFFERENCE - especially when your daughter is a small, petite 3 year old!!! Guess who is getting two rainbow dresses!

  144. My latest oops was while pin basting a quilt finding I missed a corner sash piece. Since it didn't make a huge difference I let it stay that way! That was difficult to do since I like perfection! Lol!
