Stitch on Prints and a Giveaway

Giveaway Closed Winner Lou

When I got the opportunity to make a pattern designed by Madam Samm of Sew We Quilt I jumped at the chance! I just love participating in the blog hops originating from her blog. The her Tammy Bag is gorgeous and just what I need to keep my Aurifil 12 wt. thread in with my little needle book and scissor case!

These are my three fabrics I chose to make the "Tammy Bag". I wanted a medium to large print (Beachfront Cottage by RJR Fabrics) for my outside (to stitch on) and a contrasting print (marbly fabric by Northcott) for the inside. The diamond gold fabric (Hoffman California International Fabrics) is my rebellion from the pattern for the piping on the outside pockets. I have had these fabrics in my stash for about 4 or 5 years.

Do you ever save fabric you love to find just the right project for it? I am hoping this will be beautiful! I love the seashells!

This will be one of the outside pockets when I am done. Just so you know I will not do the whole block just a few areas.

Can you see the movement with just a few stitches add?

So for next month see if you can find these items and we will begin the "Stitch on Prints Series"!

1. Medium to Large Print piece of fabric.
2. Some thread - 12 wt. Aurifil would be great but any cotton purl or even embroidery floss. (You do not need a lot of colors to start just something that matches the design you want to highlight on your print).
3. A needle! I have been using a tapestry needle.
4. An embroidery hoop
5. A pair of scissors

I sure hope you join me

Numbering Comments on your Google Blog

This is not my information but I am going to pass on these links that Mara Secretly Stitching gave to me in a comment when I asked for help to number my comments on this blog. Thank you Mara you are a wonderful and thoughtful Follower!

Mara May 28, 2013 at 9:22 AM
Here are some tutorials that might help in getting your comments numbered:

We have a Winner

Happy Memorial Day

I hope you have all enjoyed your holiday weekend if you are in the United States! If you are not I still hope you had a great weekend. I worked the whole weekend helping my Mom with a yard sale. We got rid of a lot of unneeded stuff! All the big stuff sold and most of the little stuff! The "Goodwill" boxes are packed in her car to leave us tomorrow! Yippee! When we moved here in 2005 we combined (2) household and a storage room. A lot of items did not fit in our current home and ended up in our garage. Boxes stacked to the ceiling! I was very ill from my accident at the time so my friends and family packed everything (I mean everything trash and all). I am still not in the greatest shape physically but my mind works. Anyways, I spent all weekend going through boxes! The best item I found was a box of Christmas cards from 1988 and in it was a precious little handprint of my then 3 year old, oldest daughter, now (27). It made me tear up looking at how tiny her little hand was then. So much has happened it seems like a lifetime ago. Ashley thank you for that Christmas card 25 years ago! I still love you as much as I did then even through all our differences. I am proud of the woman you have become!

My point in sharing this story is keep those little things your babies make you for special occasions because when your older and you find one of them in a box of junk it will make you so happy I promise you!

Now for the real reason your reading this post! Who won the "Whats it look like" Giveaway? 121 people signed up (Yippee! Thank you)
Random.org says #110
Who is?

Have to go count now to tell you.
Sorry, you have to wait, but I don't know how to turn the numbers on comments! Ugh!

May Book Challenge

If you have not entered the "What's It Look Like" Giveaway

Welcome to "In The Boon Docks". For the month of May Book Challenge I made a pincushion for a swap partner using the patterns from pages 19 & 24 from Zakka Style by Rashia Coleman-Hale! I was gifted this book by my wonderful Australian friend Rie at CraftyRie for Christmas. It is amazing to how many bloggers begin lifelong friendships from one comment! I know it is true, Rie and I have and we have never met! Enough of that! The book is awesome so many great projects! I recommend it to anyone who sews or wants to begin sewing! It inspires you to be creative and think outside the box!

On page 19, it showed about attaching Vintage Buttons to your pincushions. So, I dug around in my stash until I found the perfect one!

The pincushion on the front of the book is what I started out making and ended up with a completed different look!

I found this in the "Goodwill" today and I bought it! As a lover of pottery and a reminder to ask all of you to remember to pray or send good thoughts to the people of Oklahoma! "God" always sends us reminders! I think this beautiful plate was mine!

I saw a reporter ask a woman whose house was destroyed except her garage and hallway "Where you in a bunker"? She said "No, I was in the hallway closet with a quilt thrown over my head praying to make it through the storm". The reporter had a look of amazement on his face! Not all have been so lucky or blessed. Religion is not apart of this blog but today each and everyone of those people need our prayers! Thank you!

Blogger's Quilt Festival

Hi everyone, I am number 37 over Bloggers Quilt Festival: Throw Quilts. Please go take a look and Vote!

To vote this year you have to copy and paste the blog address in the vote box!

I am submitting this quilt into the "Throw Category" because when I originally made it in December this is what I said about it!

"Well last week I was working on a throw quilt for my new granddaughter to be born in January. I finished the top on Monday! I call it a throw quilt because I want it thrown on the floor/ground before the baby is put down on the floor or in the grass outside. Put it on the couch before you put the baby on it. A quilt you can take in the car and wash it when you get home. A barrier between the baby and the world. A baby wrapped in love! Yes, it is a little sappy!"

At the baby shower my daughter was expecting burp cloths! She knows I feel every new mom cannot live without them. She was mighty surprised to find Zoey's quilt in the bag! It made her cry seeing her daughter's name embroidered on it! It was one of those mother's "PRICELESS" moments! Made my heart sing!

I cried the moment "Zoey" was born and I heard her cry. She is so beautiful! Another "priceless" moment.

Look at those straight lines! I did that!

Quilt top fabric: Daisy Cottage, Lori Holt, Riley Blake/Kona Brown
Quilt back fabric and binding: Bear Hugs, Laura Berringer, Marcus Fabrics

Quilt Measurements: 49" x 49"

Special Techniques: Using the "Twister" Ruler by The The Country Schoolhouse CS Designs, I cut it up and sewed it back together! Instructions come with the ruler. It is awesome!

Le Challenge

This month's challenge was "Wings" so guess what has wings? Birds!

So I submit to the Le Challenge Group

I am excited to show you what I made! Working to create a little texture for my birdies I used Aurifil Thread 12 wt. It is wonderful to use to hand stitch, embroider, or cross-stitch. I fussy cut the birds out of this cute fabric "Just Hanging" and went to work stitching. The stitches really look great on printed fabric designs. I am new to embroidery and can't do it for a long time but I really love the way it looks. I hope you do too!

The basket pattern I used I have blogged about before, so you can find out about it HERE, if you would like to know more. It is a great pattern!

It's for the Birds

Hi! Welcome to "In The Boon Docks"!
At our house we have lots of birds flying, eating and running around. Some days the wild turkeys come down and eat up the chicken feed for my Rooster and three hens that live here on our property. I have (6) pullets (bigger than a chick but smaller than a hen) that I have raised from chicks that live in a "hen house". Cardinals, bluejays, nut hatches, and many more birds nest on the hill behind our house. Can you tell I like birds? Well I do!

So when Madam Samm announced this blog hop I just had to sign up! Her blog hops are so popular that if you don't sign up quick you never get in. The challenge is trying to come up with ideas to excite the readers and please the Madam! She is very nice but expects your best! I am kind of worried this time her "It's for the Birds" and mine aren't quite the some. But she is very generous and always cheers us on!

Thank you Madam Samm and our cheerleader Mary from I Piece 2 Mary for coordinating this blog hop and cheerleadering us all on!

Shake Your Pom Poms Blog Hop Winner

Winner

Random.org has chosen the person who will receive this lovely giveaway is lucky number 37.

She said: 37. Linda J April 26, 2013 at 7:03 AM

Love the hats and was about to ask you where you found the pattern. I have also been making hats for kids to help out a friend in a project she has undertaken.

I knit and crochet but prefer knitting as I have done it longer and I don't have to look a book to remember how to do the stitch first like I do with crocheting.

I have been following since an earlier blog hop.

Linda J blogs at Life, Quilts and a Cat too

I will email the Linda J. as soon as I post. Maybe you could stop in a her blog and show her some bloggy love!

Thank you all for commenting in the giveaway!
Please stop in again soon!
