ALYOF May Finish

The goal for May was to get
my blocks caught up
from the Scrappy Trip Bee

I used the Modern fabrics above!
To create these blocks!

The second goal was to get the binding on my surprise!

This Quilt is the surprise quilt
"Russian Stars"
I used only

Modern Yardage
Fabrics,
except the binding was a few strips of Kona solids.

I am so glad I am finally getting back on track!
I am happy to say I met my goals!

Thank you for stopping by!

New Chicken T-shirts

Those of you who follow this blog know that I have a few chickens!
Today I get home and a package is sitting on the table!
I thought "oh no, what did I buy when I was half asleep"?
Do you do that late at night cruising the Esty sites?

But instead it held these really cool t-shirts my husband bought for me online!

Can you say "love them"!

Just in case someone might be interested in your own t-shirts. He bought them from the Golden Egg Tee Shirt Shop!

Have you seen this video put out by Cotton + Steel Website
Cotton+Steel Manufacturing Process Video
take the time to learn and watch it.

I thought it explained the whole process of how their fabric is created from raw cotton to beautiful delicious designs on fabric.

One of my favorite tools

I once hated sewing strips and the little pieces for paper piecing
then ironing after each one.
Up and down, up and down, for one block!

Then I found this great little tool called a Wooden Press.
Available at the Fat Quarter Shop for $5.25!
(I am sure you can find them other places but I couldn't)

You just run it down the seam and it is just like you ironed it.
I didn't believe it until I saw it for myself!
But it works perfect!

Best investment you will make this year!
Such a time saver and inexpensive!

Have a great weekend!
Thanks for stopping by!
Create and be unique,
Lisa

I read about this tool in an old paper piecing book and I am making this recommendation on my own without any compensation! I bought my own!

Blogger's Quilt Festival

In The Boon Docks Welcome Everyone
to the May 2014
Blogger's Festival

It's time for another Blogger's Quilt Festival. This is an online event hosted by Amy at Amy's Creative Side once in the fall and once in the spring. It's a lot of fun to see the beautiful quilts that fellow bloggers choose to feature. I love visiting as many of the blogs as possible to get a feel for quilting trends and styles. I appreciate all the hard work Amy puts in to do this for the Bloggers.

I hope you enjoy my entry this year "Russian Stars". My inspiration for this quilt came while watching the Olympics this Winter I was impressed and inspired by the opening show with every color imaginable whirling around and flying through the air.

I was ecstatic when April Cobb, Owner of Modern Yardage, chose
Mary Tanana to be a Featured Fabric Designer for this quilt. Giving me the opportunity to choose from her
Folky Dokey Collection.

Russian Stars

April Cobb, Owner of Modern Yardage
Modern Yardage is an online company offering quality, affordable fabrics that are unique (digital printing) and designer quality. Modern Yardage uses environmentally friendly inks. All their fabric is printed in the USA. Customers choose design, size and scale of the fabric and it is printed upon purchase. Giving the consumer the ability to mix and match scales, choose colors and come up with something truly bold and beautiful on their own! Modern Yardage was voted on by Martha Stewart for an American Made 2013 Audience Choice Finalist, winning the Technology category!

Fabric Designer Mary Tanana

Mary’s style is defined by very intricate pattern work. She loves to sketch in a variety of mediums, and often refers to her many sketchbooks, both old and new, for inspiration. She is fascinated with henna designs from India, folk art from the Ukraine, Russia and Poland, and loves Zentangle art. She has traveled extensively, and takes a lot of photographs wherever she goes. Mary tries to translate textures that she sees in landscapes, nature, and architecture into something fresh, eye-catching, and colorful. Mary is also an avid gardener and collector of orchids. She loves looking at flowers and plants, and the variety of textures and colors that come from them.
Mother Nature is always an inspiration to her.
You can find Mary's fabric at Modern Yardage available for sale here
Website: Groovity

After completing this quilt I contacted Mary for her opinion:

"I love it! I love the white background, it makes everything pop.
It's so exciting to see what people make with my designs!
It never ceases to amaze me".

Her comments made me feel absolutely fabulous!

Giveaway Update

If it wasn't for this blog I never would have met Greg Cartwright.
Susan is a follower, who lives in Oklahoma and told me
about her very talented brother who lives here in West Virginia.
His website
Cartwright's Creations
is were he sell his Pen and Pencil Sets, Pens,
and my favorite Seam Rippers with a story to share
from the reclaimed wood he acquires to create them.

To enter the Seam Ripper Giveaway please click HERE

Susan shares her story of her seam ripper!

Susan - I'm fortunate to own one of these - I want everyone to know this is the sharpest seam ripper that I own. AND I was hesitant to tell Greg that I had lost the cap to my seam ripper. He kindly suggested that I pull out my seam ripper, turn it around, insert it back in the barrel of the ripper, and guess what? There was my cap - no more lost cap to my seam ripper. This is also the only seam ripper I own that has the cap with it. Mine is made from wood from land across from the one-room elementary school I attended (and it belonged to my sister-in-law's father). Neat, eh?
