Colonial Needle Giveaway and Sewing Maintence

Have you ever been sewing and your machine
starts making a thunking noise?
Thunk, thunk, thunk - seems like
it is really having an issue sewing?
You my friend have a dull needle
and need to replace it.

I recently took my two machines
and had them clean, oiled, and adjusted
for $15 a machine. A group of sewers from our library
called a man and he came to the library
and did machines for 3 hours one after another.
We got a better deal than if we sent our machines out.
A few needed parts and he took those back to his shop.

Speak to your Guild about hosting a clean out!

Once every couple years it is a good idea!

The wonderful people at Colonial Needle sent me
the new Machine NeedlePack II
to try out and give one away to one of you.

I really love mine to store all the
different sizes I have been getting!

Once I start using them I can store them in the pack by type/size!
It came with great chart for choosing the correct needle for the job!

The quilted fabric pack just folds up for easy storage!
With so much to learn about needles it is
nice to have a product that make it easy to identify
the needle once you take it out.

I have one in my pincushion and have no idea what type it is?
How about you?

Have you ever tried to read the writing on a needle?
Almost impossible!

Colonial Needle also makes one of my favorite products ThimblePads! Best thing to use when sewing down a binding!

I am so glad they sent one to giveaway with the Machine NeedlePack II!
You are going to love these to products as much as I do!
Will it be you?

ALYOF April Finishes 2015

My April finish as described in my ALYOF April Goal
was to make a
Noodlehead Open Wide Zippered Pouch
for my partner in the IG Swap! I am very happy to say I got it done and mailed off! Just waiting for my partner to say "I Got It and Love it"!

I know some of you may think you are not good enough
or think you will join one when you can sew better.
That time never comes for the fear of rejection.
So hop off the fence and have some fun!

I made (2) pouches and I really liked how
they turned out since I never made one before.
The Feather Pincushion was so hard to part with
it was just so cute!
Then I put some other goodies in it!

(Pardon my messy mail stack below)!

Using my embroidery stitches on my machine
I stitch the bottom closed with these hearts!
The idea is when you look inside you know
someone cared enough to put them there for you!
Everyone could use a little love!
Even a stranger!

I love how the zipper end comes out on the pouch!
Definitely want to make more!

I am sorry that this month
I will not be linking up because
I was a day late but I will go visit the
other participants

Sew BitterSweet Designs
and you can too!

Thank you for coming by and checking
out what I am making! I am quickly working on my "Scrappy Trip Around the World" blocks that are late! I am sorry my dear friends.
In the mail tomorrow!

Go cast a vote for Craftsy

Craftsy

Is nominated in the International Webby Awards
And every crafter in blogland needs
to take a few minutes to vote
and have our voice heard.

If you have never been to the Craftsy site
I recommend you go and sign up
for one of the many free courses
they have available for quilting and sewing.

Just click on this blue link Craftsy

I am not affiliated with Craftsy in any way. I receive nothing in return for recommending them to you. I do this because I use them myself and pay for every course I take. I do admit I wait until they have sales to sign up for them. I just recently signed up for this course!

For $19.99 I cannot take a course at a LQS! As a life long learner I believe we need to continue to educate ourselves to stimulate our brains and grow as people! As a disable woman who doesn't drive, I have trouble getting to and from classes that are 50 miles away. This is available 24/7 in my own home! Pretty cool! Live to learn, learn to live! You won't regret it!

To vote go here - 19th Annual Webby Awards

Right now a foodie is in the lead lets see if we can beat that!

If you have a blog I would appreciate it if you would
but out a message to go vote to your readers!

Thank you and lets be heard!

Condemned to Boots

I will be forever more condemned to wear boots
outside in the yard
After my last fall my family has demanded
I wear boots in the yard!
Oh well to protect my knees
that have gone on me, I will obey.

The coming of Spring always reminds me of what I can't
or shouldn't do because of possibility
of further injury to my already damaged body!
It has been 15 years since the accident that changed my life
and I still struggle most mornings to
just get out of bed and begin a new day!

Blogging has changed my life in so many ways,
it has given me an outlet to let go of frustration
and accept my life for what it is - wonderful!

I have a home and a loving family!
A place to be and I can walk!
I am so grateful I can walk.
Acceptance that I may never be famous or rich.
I was very ambitious back then and very good with computers.
The internet has all this online training running 24/7
I made those classes for colleges before they
ever went on the net.
It all developed from computer based training.
I have had to redefine who I was after my job
and the education that went into it.
It was gone in a flash
I was barely able to do anything
much less think clearly and communicate
without some random thought
blanking out my mind.
It was really bad in the beginning,
my poor family.
It is only now that I realize how very lucky I am to have them.

I was a woman who needed a purpose for being!
An identity crisis until one day my husband and daughter bought me an iPad.
Using a computer is almost impossible for me for any length of time.
Sitting or standing for to long in any position causes problems.
On the outside I looked pretty normal
on the inside everything was kind of a mess!
Including my brain!

Jump ahead 15 years to now!
I think clearly most of the time !
I sew most days and truly enjoy it!
I get around sometimes slowly but I get there!
I blog - writing, reading, sewing all stimulates the brain!
I find pleasure in life!

I truly believe that someone out there has it worse that me
so I shouldn't ever feel sorry for myself. I have found this to be very true.
I could have it a lot worse and thank God for saving me in so many way.

Why did I just write this post?
I am not really sure except to tell you
that whatever you are going through don't give up on yourself!
Things change it may be quickly or take years.
Nothing is impossible you just might
have to learn a new way to do it!

Thank you for listening to my ramblings!
Create something and be Uniquely You!

ALYOF April Goal

A day late and a dollar short!
Late is to late to enter the Linky Party
but I will share my April goal anyway!

I am working on a Noodlehead's
Open Wide Zippered Pouch
for a swap on
Instagram

It is my April Goal!

I found out my partner likes Cotton + Steel! It wasn't until I did further stocking (research) I found out she really loves the mustangs. So using the fabrics in both these photos I will create her personal open wide zipper pouch using the Noodlehead tutorial. I love Anna's patterns and tutorials, the directions are clear and step by step.

I am learning more from each swap I do. You are not required to put anything more into the swap besides the pouch. But I have picked up a few little odds and ends sewing notions mostly that I hope she will like and make her laugh and happy she joined the swap.

I thought a pincushion would be nice so I found this blue feather to paper piece by What the Bobbin? and it is free in the Craftsy Pattern section.

Mine does not look to great here!
But with some trimming and purple packing
it is perfect for my new friend,
(Can't show everything in one post)!

I guess what I am saying is you don't have to spend a lot of money on your partner's extra's -
Things like -

- buy one package of Magnets
and break them up for a few other partners in the future

- buy pocket kleenex with funny quotes
(Do not split these up - buy a few at a time)

- Little notepads to keep in a pocket or purse to keep notes

- small sewing notions - a cute or crazy tape measure in their favorite color!

Try to make them a personal item you know they will love like a pincushion!
(I am not posting the finished product yet)

Thank you for stopping by and learning more about what to get you swap partner.
Take time to learn what they might like!

Create and be Unique,
Lisa

Aurifil Thread Giveaway - Black and White

Let's talk thread!

As Quilters and Sewers - thread binds everything we create together.

Some will say the most important item is fabric,
spend the extra on fabric,
I say buy the best thread!

Cheap cotton threads breaks and rots after a few years.
Have a problem with your thread breaking
try a spool of Aurifil 50 wt. thread!
It may just cure it!

Just a side note - if you have old thread that was given to you,
use it as a decoration don't use it in your machine.
Never buy old thread for sewing,
it will just cause you a lot of frustration.

When I needed a bag to hold my smaller rulers,
I chose Aurifil 50 wt thread to zig zag the bag
because it is strong and durable!

I use white to sew almost everything light colored and that includes topstitching. I went back months searching my most used color and go figure it is Aurifil 50 wt. thread #2021, Natural White!

It only goes to say that my other most used color
of Aurifil 50 wt. thread is #2692, Black!

Sometimes topstitching has to match the fabric!
I find at those times I love,
Aurifil 50 wt thread
even more, with 270 different colors it
is easy to find the color I need!

This giveaway is Sponsored by Aurifil

Follow the instructions below to be entered
to win (2) large spools (1422 yards on each spool)
One of #2021 - Natural White and one of #2692 - Black
