Culcita Monthly Subscription Box

I recently received a wonderful surprise in the mail from Jessica of Culcita, a family run business!  I love subscriptions boxes!  I have a couple for myself already and this one delivers fabrics I know I am going to love and use each month, no surprises and extra that I already own.  Which is starting to make a lot of since to me!

Culcita

(pronounced kul-see-tah, and the Latin origin of the word "quilt")
It is the brain child of two sisters and their parents to deliver 12 predetermined modern fabrics in a monthly subscriber box.  You can buy one box or get a subscription for 3, 6, or 12 months of fat quarters or 1/2 yards. Shipping is included in the price, in the USA and a outside the USA has a predetermined charge!

Just to point something out to those of you who might not do Subscriptions in this program you are not paying up front for 12 months, you are charged a once monthly fee and are commiting to purchase for 12 months!

No trying to find a quilt store that stocks the fabulous non-traditional fabrics you want!

No taking your littles with you to search through bolt after bolt, to find out the shop only bought the colorway they thought would sell.

After the 15th of the month it get’s delivered to your doorstep!  How cool is that!

October 2017 was Spirit Animal by Tula Pink

I am really impressed with the selection of prints I was sent.  Many times you might receive one each of what I consider the great prints and more of the blender types.  Not with this company!

In the months to come!

Pretty Exciting Line Up!

I want them all!

If you are looking for Modern Fabrics delivered to your door each month
Is the one!

Thank you for reading and please do check Culcita out if you love modern fabrics like I do!  Lisa

My blogging app died today!  This is a new one I am trying.  I do my blogging from an iPad!  I guess you can say this is a test!

Anyone know how to size photos in Blog Touch Pro?

So please excuse my extra large photo at the moment of Juliet Van Der Heiden new book which just came out!  She makes the most amazing foundation paper piecing patterns!  If you love FPP you will want this one!

Thank you for struggling through this with me.  With a lot of work I will figure this out!

Tula Spider Mini Quilt

"Spider Mini Quilt"

Size: 9 1/2" x 9 1/2"

Fabrics: Spider & Borders - Holiday Homies, Tula Pink, Freespirit, Background & Backing - miscellaneous 5" solid squares Binding -Rocacco Grunge, Moda

Threads: Piecing & Quilting - Aurifil 50 wt thread 2000 (Light Sand), Raw Edge Applique - Aurifil 50 wt thread 2692 (Black) Binding - Aurifil 50 wt thread 2250 (Red)

So who takes the Christmas fabric and makes a Halloween mini quilt?

That would be me!

Tutorial

Print and cut out a random spider 3" or so. This helped when I raw edge applicated it on the 5" square! But I am getting ahead of myself. I outlined the spider on some iron on double sided interfacing! Then centered everything on the red cross in the green square. Ironed it on the 5" x 5" square. Sewed the raw edge applique then the web string. I am sure there is a better word, but I cannot think of it! Sew the 2 1/2" borders on, match at top, trim! I do sides first then top and bottom. Make a quilt sandwich and start quilting! Trying to think like a spider is hard so it is pretty straight but at an angle! Not the greatest quilting but I did it myself! Trim and square up! Sew on your binding, mine is 2" wide! Hand sew the back of binding down, I think it looks better even if I hate doing it. Tip: The more you do the faster you get!

Hope you like it! Lisa
