I received some great giveaway mail on Saturday from Cathy Daniel , a great way to start a birthday! I got to choose any item from her housewares shop ! How cool is that! As you can see I chose an apron with the bear claw pattern on it. She has lots of patchwork items (mugs, coasters, and aprons). So for the record, here I am pictured on my 50 birthday! I love books and magazines! I read them, collect them, and if nothing is in them I am going to create I donate them to my local library or give them to the local Senior Center. I have a few magazines I have kept 12 years. Most of those, I had cards I made that where published. A tidbit of my life before quilting. Back to magazines! I don't think I have ever seen one with no ads? Have you? Most of these where in a basket by my chair or by our bed! Now, with digital magazine and books, I feel like something is missing. I could pass around a good book to everyone I knew, not with digital! Most digital books and magazines cost as much as a paper one but I cannot share an article with you or another friend. The colors on a digital magazine looks beautiful on my iPad but if I print it off - it uses a lot of ink and is not professional looking at all! Most magazines cost between $9.99 - $14.99, I won't say I am not buying them, but I am trying to cut down on what I spend a

A Friday Finish I appreciate all the encouragement I have received during this experiment! I think it has worked out great and I am very pleased with the end result. The test dress is done and now I hope to complete her Easter dress! But first I have another project to complete for a friend for April. Now, I just need to get my little model to put the buttons on! I might just use hooks or snaps to make the bodice a little tighter if I need to? What do you think? Additions When I finished sewing the skirt to the bodice I realized that were they were sewn together it might rub on Zoey's delicate skin. So, I added a small piece that covered the stitches and increased the lining a little longer! Please ignore my gold thread! I am glad somethings are hidden from the outside world. Why didn't someone tell me clothes creation is a whole different ball game than quilts! Ugh! I picked out fabric from my stash that I bought for pillowcases. I am glad to because I would have been sorely disappointed! This is just the bodice and it took four days! It looked so easy in the pattern! But low and behold it is not! I ripped and redid those flaps (5) times before I finally got it right! ( The white belongs on the inside )! Tip to new garment sewist: Use the same fabric for the lining as you do the outside it will save you a lot of grief and frustration. Worry about different fabric for the lining after you learn basic dress construction. Yes, I thought it looked great, with the stitching around the arm holes then when I went to the next step! I found I had done it to soon. The bodice is going to look like a pincushion before I am done! Ripped it all back out! Now! The perfect arm hole! The bodice is done! Thank Heaven! A Lovely Year Of Finishes - March Goal One of my year goals was to make "Zoey" a dress. I got the pattern from Pattern Member @ The Sewing Rabbit For $10 a month you get three patterns! I thought what a deal! One of the first patterns is a girl dress that usually sells for $6! Practically paid for itself this month! The dress is called The Madeline Dress by mesewcrazy1 I know the fabric is a little wild but I wanted to make a test dress before I cut into the beautiful yards I bought for her summer dresses! There are lots of different kinds and Madam Samm left it open to interpretation. She showed us how to make some and at the time I was thinking; ruffled bloomers, ruffled dresses, ruffled pillows. Then I saw a quilt in a magazine with what looked like ruffles! I kind of browsed through the issue of Quilt-it today , March/April 2014 issue and left it in my rocking chair and went to work. The second time I read the "Garden Path" pattern by Ann Baxter, (I had already made the quilt), it read "ruching", you don'
