Modern Yardage
Modern Yardage is an online company offering quality, affordable fabrics that are unique (digital printing) and designer quality. Modern Yardage uses environmentally friendly inks. All their fabric is printed in the USA. Customers choose design, size and scale of the fabric and it is printed upon purchase. Giving the consumer the ability to mix and match scales, choose colors and come up with something truly bold and beautiful on their own! Most impressive Modern Yardage was voted by Martha Stewart, American Made, a 2013 Technology Finalist . Winning the Technology category!
I approached April Cobb in August about making a quilt from the Modern Yardage fabric. We discussed several options and decided on a quilt made from designer Karen Harris' fabrics. She said she had never seen a quilt made with Karen's fabrics and agreed to let me choose fabrics to include in the quilt. I was very impressed with the owner of Modern Yardage and the internet site. First you choose the design/color options you want, then the scale (small, medium, large), and size of fabric you want to purchase. I used some of each option to give this quilt some variety.

Modern Yardage October Feature Designer
Karen's work is modern and bold. She loves shapes and the space between shapes. Second only to shapes is her love of color. Karen says, "It is my goal to be the 'go to' place for all things big, bold and graphic. My prints and patterns are always abstract by design. Everyone gets to identify what they see in the design; it makes each design very personal to the individual. It makes the design more of an experience than just an aesthetic and I love that. I develop my unique motifs and silhouettes from my original pen & ink drawings…and translate them into energetic two-dimensional and three-dimensional art for products and spaces.

Poetry in Motion, Autumn Breeze Colorway
I hand stitch with Aurifil 12 wt. thread around each hexagon to help color pop the quilt! The Modern Yardage fabric took a lot of abuse from my needles, hoops, and scrunching. It took it and held up great. Much better than most fabrics. I was also impressed that there was very little or no fraying! Which is awesome! I will definitely use this fabric in the future and I hope you will too!

ReplyDeleteI already get the Modern Yardage Newsletter, and like them. I now follow In The Boon Docks through Bloglovin. And I have shied away from geometrics and some contemporary fabrics because they were popular in clothes in the late 60's. I was a chunky middle schooler and couldn't wear them. So now if I won, I would use the opportunity to challenge myself and make a quilt with them, post it on my blog and fb page.
