Old Glory Farm Girl Vintage/Giveaway

Image
Hi my name is Lisa and I am so happy to have been invited to participate in the Sew Along through the Fat Quarter Shop . Lori Holt of Bee In My Bonnet is such a talented author, pattern and fabric designer. I love her books and fabric lines with Riley Blake. Have you been following along with Lori Holt's Farm Girl Vintage and jumped on the #farmgirlfridays bandwagon? I love seeing the blocks each week on Instagram. The book has a great variety of patterns that are very easy to follow. It is designed to open and lay flat. The photography is so colorful and beautiful. Did I say cute, so very cute! A keeper my friends! Buy yourself a copy at the Fat Quarter Shop! Old Glory Block Living with two guys, my husband and grandson their hangout space is the livingroom. When I told them I was redoing the couch pillows they both told me they wanted to choose the fabrics. No girly fabric for them. The pattern for "Old Glory" has a scrappy look but that didn't

Sewing Service Alert

Hi friends sometimes I just like to reach out to you and share great products, deals, and a few tips! Machine Maintenance Be kind to your sewing machine, change the needle after big projects and clean it out often. If you see dust on the outside I can guarentee it is on the inside. If you don't know how to clean your machine - google your machine name, model, cleaning, and someone will show you on a blog or YouTube video. I use a paintbrush to get those dust bunnies out. Products Yesterday, at my local Walmart I found these Clover Jumbo Wonder Clips on sale for $13.00 for the 24 pack in the Sewing Clearance Section. I bought both bags of course. Today, I looked at Walmart.com and they are on sale for $17.29. So check your local Walmart in the Clearance and get a good deal. I love this size clip for holding fabric pieces together and they are handy for rolling up a quilt during quilting as shown below.   Let's face it we all need light and some of them can be quite expe

Quilting with Aurifil

Image
For years I have quilted my small quilts with Aurifil 50 weight thread. It just seemed so easy to use the same weight for everything. Then I was making a secret project that I wanted the quilting to make a statement and felt like I failed.   Example 1: Quilted with 50 weight While on vacation I picked up a spool of Aurifil 40 weight to try for quilting and I really noticed a difference using the thicker thread.   Example 2: Quilted with 40 weight In example 1 - the quilting looks kind of flat and in example 2 - I think the quilting is more defined and stands out! For me it will be Aurifil 50wt for piecing and Aurifil 40wt for quilting! Tell me do you see the difference? A whole new collection of Aurifil colors! I can never get enough Aurifil! I think I will be more satisfied with my quilting from now on. What a difference a heavier weight thread can make! I am going to end the Vacation Giveaway on Tuesday. Please enter if you haven't already! Thank you for being you! I

Bag Hardware

Image
Where do you find all those little metal pieces for a new bag? One of the things I love about thrift stores is recycling bag hardware! Unfortunately, where I live they aren't many so when we travel I watch for them everywhere. In Virginia Beach they have lots of thrift stores and I went to 4 looking for handbags that had hardware I needed for totes and handbags! I never paid more than $4.00 and got quite a few great items. Recycle, recycle, recycle! As you can see I was looking for leather handles and straps. I bought a few leather belts at $2.00 to use as straps. I got the idea for recycling leather belts from Anna of Noodlehead A belt like this one will make (2) key fobs - at $.25 These green handles came off a new $32 purse I paid $4 at the Goodwill! Use a pair of Utility Scissors to cut the purses apart! Do not use your sewing scissors! The clip type hardware runs about $3 a piece at JoAnn's so $4 saves you money and gives you a nice leather strap! Metal zippers
