Old Glory Farm Girl Vintage/Giveaway
Hi my name is Lisa and I am so happy to have been invited to participate in the Sew Along through the Fat Quarter Shop. Lori Holt of Bee In My Bonnet is such a talented author, pattern and fabric designer. I love her books and fabric lines with Riley Blake.
Have you been following along with Lori Holt's Farm Girl Vintage and jumped on the #farmgirlfridays bandwagon? I love seeing the blocks each week on Instagram. The book has a great variety of patterns that are very easy to follow. It is designed to open and lay flat. The photography is so colorful and beautiful. Did I say cute, so very cute! A keeper my friends! Buy yourself a copy at the Fat Quarter Shop!
Living with two guys, my husband and grandson their hangout space is the livingroom. When I told them I was redoing the couch pillows they both told me they wanted to choose the fabrics. No girly fabric for them. The pattern for "Old Glory" has a scrappy look but that didn't get the go ahead with them. Finally we agreed upon the blue and white dot print by Riley Blake and a white center star. The rest of the fabrics are stash. I used Aurifil 50wt. thread for piecing and quilted one pillow front and both backs with Aurifil 40wt. White thread after quilting one in 50wt. Red, I decided I prefered the heavier weight for quilting. As you can see from the picture above they both look the same.
Here you can see the difference! I like when the quilting stands out. But the guys like them both and that is all that really counts. Please the ones you love! So, no pick, pick, pick, this time! (I love my seam ripper)
I have really enjoyed making blocks from Farm Girl Vintage and hope to complete the quilt when things slow down around here. I wanted to have a nice giveaway for all of you who stopped by so I bought some of Lori's new fabric, Modern Minis, and spilt it with you. I even cut the 5" squares and FQ. The panel is my favorite!

I like fabric. It gives me a chance to try things out of my comfort zone.
ReplyDeleteHi Lisa
ReplyDeleteI am following you since the hops of Samm, I miss them truly but fully understand her points... So I am reading the posts of the hoppers which were joining the fun before! Hope you are well and i am really struggling with myself if I should buy the book...
Hugs frim Switzerland

I really like the opportunity to win fabric. I love looking at it and thinking what can I make with this and for who! thanks!
ReplyDeleteI am a follower with Bloglovn!
ReplyDeleteFabric :) I love the chance to get new fabric without having to feel guilty about not having a project in mind for it (I feel like I need a specific project in mind when I win gift certificates and need to choose the fabric myself!).

ReplyDeleteOoh fave giveaway, difficult choice. I think it has to be fabric but sometimes a complete surprise is lovely.
ReplyDeleteI'm not picky, as long as is something I would actually love to have in my greedy little hands! A gift certificate to a modern fabric store wouldn't interest me, neither would a bundle of purple fabric. But you put up some Lori Holt fabric and I'm all over it! Thanks for the fun!
ReplyDeleteLong time follower via GFC
ReplyDeleteLove your pillows, the quilting thread does make a big difference. And as for Lori's book, I have it and look through it all the time. Her home is so beautiful, it's like a every little girls dream house. I'd love to paint every piece of wood in my home to make it look like hers, but Mr. Podunk likes the WOOD look. What is it with men and WOOD GRAIN. It'll still be there, just under some paint!
ReplyDeleteHmmmmm.... That's a loaded question... Winning anything is just awesome in itself😉
ReplyDeleteI am following you via IG and Bloglovin, thanks for the chance!!

My favorite giveaways are fabric first because I love the surprise of actually getting the fabric and figuring out how I am going to use it. Then notions, then gift certificates.

I prefer physical prizes to gift certificates as they always seem to be for american shops (I'm British). As most of those have a minimum shipping charge of about $24 to the UK, there's never much (if any) left to spend on fabric.
