Colonial Needle Giveaway and Sewing Maintence

Image
Have you ever been sewing and your machine starts making a thunking noise? Thunk, thunk, thunk - seems like it is really having an issue sewing? You my friend have a dull needle and need to replace it. I recently took my two machines and had them clean, oiled, and adjusted for $15 a machine. A group of sewers from our library called a man and he came to the library and did machines for 3 hours one after another. We got a better deal than if we sent our machines out. A few needed parts and he took those back to his shop. Speak to your Guild about hosting a clean out! Once every couple years it is a good idea! The wonderful people at Colonial Needle sent me the new Machine NeedlePack II to try out and give one away to one of you. I really love mine to store all the different sizes I have been getting! Once I start using them I can store them in the pack by type/size! It came with great chart for choosing the correct needle for the job! The quilted fabric pack just folds up for

ALYOF April Finishes 2015

Image
My April finish as described in my ALYOF April Goal was to make a Noodlehead Open Wide Zippered Pouch for my partner in the IG Swap! I am very happy to say I got it done and mailed off! Just waiting for my partner to say "I Got It and Love it"! I know some of you may think you are not good enough or think you will join one when you can sew better. That time never comes for the fear of rejection. So hop off the fence and have some fun! I made (2) pouches and I really liked how they turned out since I never made one before. The Feather Pincushion was so hard to part with it was just so cute! Then I put some other goodies in it! (Pardon my messy mail stack below)! Using my embroidery stitches on my machine I stitch the bottom closed with these hearts! The idea is when you look inside you know someone cared enough to put them there for you! Everyone could use a little love! Even a stranger! I love how the zipper end comes out on the pouch! Definitely want to make more!

Go cast a vote for Craftsy

Image
Craftsy Is nominated in the International Webby Awards And every crafter in blogland needs to take a few minutes to vote and have our voice heard. If you have never been to the Craftsy site I recommend you go and sign up for one of the many free courses they have available for quilting and sewing. Just click on this blue link Craftsy I am not affiliated with Craftsy in any way. I receive nothing in return for recommending them to you. For $19.99 I cannot take a course at a LQS! As a life long learner I believe we need to continue to educate ourselves to stimulate our brains and grow as people! Condemned to Boots

Image
I will be forever more condemned to wear boots outside in the yard After my last fall my family has demanded I wear boots in the yard! Oh well to protect my knees that have gone on me, I will obey. The coming of Spring always reminds me of what I can't or shouldn't do because of possibility of further injury to my already damaged body! It has been 15 years since the accident that changed my life and I still struggle most mornings to just get out of bed and begin a new day! Blogging has changed my life in so many ways, it has given me an outlet to let go of frustration and accept my life for what it is - wonderful! I have a home and a loving family! A place to be and I can walk! I am so grateful I can walk. Acceptance that I may never be famous or rich. I was very ambitious back then and very good with computers. The internet has all this online training running 24/7 I made those classes for colleges before they ever went on the net. It all developed from computer based tr

ALYOF April Goal

Image
A day late and a dollar short! Late is to late to enter the Linky Party but I will share my April goal anyway! I am working on a Noodlehead's Open Wide Zippered Pouch for a swap on Instagram It is my April Goal! I found out my partner likes Cotton + Steel ! It wasn't until I did further stocking (research) I found out she really loves the mustangs. So using the fabrics in both these photos I will create her personal open wide zipper pouch using the Noodlehead tutorial. I love Anna's patterns and tutorials, the directions are clear and step by step. I am learning more from each swap I do. You are not required to put anything more into the swap besides the pouch. But I have picked up a few little odds and ends sewing notions mostly that I hope she will like and make her laugh and happy she joined the swap. I thought a pincushion would be nice so I found this blue feather to paper piece by What the Bobbin? and it is free in the Craftsy Pattern section. Mine does no

Aurifil Thread Giveaway - Black and White

Image
Let's talk thread! As Quilters and Sewers - thread binds everything we create together. Some will say the most important item is fabric, spend the extra on fabric, I say buy the best thread! Cheap cotton threads breaks and rots after a few years. Have a problem with your thread breaking try a spool of Aurifil 50 wt. thread! It may just cure it! Just a side note - if you have old thread that was given to you, use it as a decoration don't use it in your machine. Never buy old thread for sewing, it will just cause you a lot of frustration. When I needed a bag to hold my smaller rulers, I chose Aurifil 50 wt thread to zig zag the bag because it is strong and durable! I use white to sew almost everything light colored and that includes topstitching. I went back months searching my most used color and go figure it is Aurifil 50 wt. thread #2021, Natural White! It only goes to say that my other most used color of Aurifil 50 wt. thread is #2692, Black! Sometimes topstitching
