A Quilt-Along

Image
Pat Sloan and Michelle Foster at The Learning Center The Learning Center are hosting a Quilt Along. Beginner’s Quilt-Along They are taking a slight detour from teaching quilting techniques and get sewing over the next few months with the Beginner’s Quilt-Along. I hope you’ll join them and have some FUN! Bonus: you’ll have a beautiful gift completed in time for Christmas too. So, why don't you go over and take a look! Grab a button and join Michelle next Thursday, June 7, 2012, for the first block! I am seriously thinking of joining them for the Quilt Along to learn some new blocks and win prizes. Pat and Michelle promised prizes! My Week I kept busy this week working on my lil' twister quilt. Took it this afternoon to my friend Irene, to quilt it all together. It will be one of our joint entries in the County Fair. Then it will go to little Sophie to live for the rest of her life! That baby is so cute I can't wait to kiss her little cheeks! Her momma is my youngest

Dilemma

Do I save this for the county fair and mail it to the mother with a hopeful ribbon or mail it to the mother when I am done? I still need to put the aqua border on it. I might put a little white 1 1/2" border around the pink, then the aqua border? Got any advice? I am listening! The fair is in July I think? Is that to long to wait?

Cut Up What?

Image
This morning has been interesting! I wanted to do the twist and found myself in dread of cutting up something I spent all day yesterday sewing. I won a charm pack of Vintage Modern from Connie at Quilting by the River Thank you Connie for the giveaway. I liked the one I received so much I bought a second one from the Fat Quarter Shop . Then I went to a local quilt shop (50 miles away) Quilts By Phyllis and the ladies there showed me how to use all three sizes of Twister. I came home with Lil' Twister for 5" charm packs, the littler one I was afraid I'd cut my fingertips off with, the large one was double the cost and I wanted to make sure this was something I could do with arthritis in both hands. So yesterday I got my fabric out and started sewing. Two 5" charm packs and 4 strips of Kona Pink (not sure exact name) 2 1/2" wide. First recommendation use 3" strips! I really loved it when I finished sewing it. Those beautiful feet belong to my very lov

I am linking up to Amy's Creative Side and Blogger's Quilt Festival to share this baby quilt, the most important one to me for 2012. Thank you for stopping by and looking. I made this quilt for my best friend of 23 years first grandchild. David Michael Platt was born on January 31, 2012 to Amanda and Justin Platt. When I first saw the Backyard Baby fabric line designed Patty Sloniger, for Michael Miller, I knew I wanted to use it for little Davids quilt. What I imagined was ants tunneling through the jars full of insects, tall trees running up both sides with the woodpeckers peeking out, and the play yard on the top and bottom. I wanted the quilt to have lots of things for a baby's eyes to focus on. The fabric reminded me of all the things our kids loved to do when they were little ones. He is such a blessing to all of us! It is awesome to make quilt for people you love and cherish. Laura may you life be filled with many such blessings and happiness. I cherish you

Maybe she needs a few more Bad Ugly pieces of fabric nobody would trade for to send to one of her participants? I think I am going to keep an eye on Kathy's quilt and watch it turn beautiful. I also want you all to know I love her little shoe fabric! (This photo was borrowed from Kathy's Blog, thank you for letting me steal your little shoes). I went looking for fabric to make tote bags for teacher's appreciation day. I was surprised just how expensive the material cost. I went back home and used the material I bought on clearance to make a tablecloth. David was happy and so was his teacher. I decided that since Yard Sale season has started that I will look for duck fabric (I think that is what it is called) when I go to the sales. I found these two beauties right down the road from my house. A heavy duty shower curtain like new! It will make quite a few tote bags. Cost .50 cents and strips look great on tote bags. Now I love this! A twin size bed cover $4.00. Thrifty me is going to chop it up and sew it into a back throw for my couch and the rest is future tote bag material. It is beautiful heavy fabric. My favorite word this summer is going to be recycled. No $14 a yard for me. I made this scarf for a lady at church, she was so happy to receive it. It made me happier giving it to her. Do you like giving things
