Think Ruffles Blog Hop
Welcome to "In The Boon Docks" and Day 1 of the "Think Ruffles Blog Hop"! My name is Lisa and I am so happy you are here today to see my quilt with ruffles! I have to thank Madam Samm @ Sew We Quilt and Amy (Head Cheerleader)@ Sew Incredibly Crazy for arranging this great hop!
What is a ruffle? There are lots of different kinds and Madam Samm left it open to interpretation. She showed us how to make some and at the time I was thinking; ruffled bloomers, ruffled dresses, ruffled pillows. Then I saw a quilt in a magazine with what looked like ruffles! I kind of browsed through the issue of Quilt-it today, March/April 2014 issue and left it in my rocking chair and went to work. The second time I read the "Garden Path" pattern by Ann Baxter, (I had already made the quilt), it read "ruching", you don't know the horror I felt at that moment. They are made the same way! What is up with that? Then, I did some research on the internet and ruching is ruffles or plates. So, I am saved! I got my ruffles on!

A quilt, not a big one, just one for Zoey's playpen she sleeps in when she stays with us. I chose a Joel Duberry kit I purchased Pink Chalk Fabrics months ago, the kit included (3 charm packs and (6) 1/2 yards of the solids) and I used every bit of all of it except (4) charm squares!

Works for me---all you did was secure the other side rather than have a flap of fabric rippling in the breeze! Made for an interesting textural quilt for your little model too. Well done.
ReplyDeleteHi Lisa-I think some smarty pants marketing executive came up with a new name for gathering to make ruffles and "ruching" a French word was "adapted." I had never heard the term until my daughter was shopping for a wedding dress five years ago and she used it. It's just a fancy way of saying gathering. I checked out Pink Chalk fabrics and notice that they have Kona Solids. I would love to have a jelly roll or other pre-cut of them as they are so versatile. Thanks for sharing your cute baby quilt.

ReplyDeleteI am a Bloglovin' follower! I love your ruching. It is very feminine but not fussy.
ReplyDeleteAt Pink Chalk, I would at least one yard of Laura Foster Nicholson Harvest Heirloom in all for colorways. Yeah, I know. Exceeds the certificate. I can't choose I like the red, brown, green, and even the yellow colorway. I would probably turn them into place mats using different colorways on each side. They would all go together but in a funky, cool way.
ReplyDeleteI have shopped at Pink Chalk before and they are great!! I would purchase the Collection Coordinates - Jaybird Night Sky FQ Solids. I just love that quilt design and those fabrics are so colorful!

ReplyDeleteYou did a very nice job on your quilt ... thank you for sharing!! Happy birthday wishes to your daughter :)
ReplyDeleteI didn't even have to go to Pink Chalk Fabrics. I just received an order from them that included swatches for the shot cottons by Kaffe. I'd order as much as I could afford of each of them -- I absolutely love them, and I'm certainly a PCF fan.
ReplyDeleteI have just gotten back in to following blogs, and yours is on my list. I really like how you handled the ruffles prob . . . er, challenge. I'm not very ruffly myself, so like the idea of adding them to baby quilts. And I love the "sew both sides" down plan. I'd considered doing that for a quilt for which my sister embroidered nine blocks in gold on natural. Since I can't quite match the fabric, this would be a great solution to still remain neutral without worrying about matching.
ReplyDeleteLove your little quilt with the ruching
ReplyDeleteLovely quilt! And your little one is so adorable too!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the giveaway and if I win ;) I would buy this FQ bundle:
