Tree Bird Blog Hop Giveaway

Welcome to In The Boon Docks!
Hello Hoppers, I am Lisa and I am happy show you what I made for todays blog hop!
But before I begin I would like to thank Madam Samm,
Sew We Quilt, our truly wonderful Leader and Lana, It Seams To Be Sew, our Head Cheerleader. Madam Samm runs everything, thinking up what hops to do, finds sponsors, promotes and invites us in, keeps us motivated months in advance, and assigns talented cheerleaders. Putting together a blog hop of this size is not easy as it may look! Lana has done a wonderful job organizing the bloggers from all over the world, arranging schedules and pulling us all together. So again, thank you both for without you I wouldn't be here today!

O.K. now I can show you what I created for the Tree Bird Blog Hop!

Using one square of Beautiful Birds panel fabric
I stitched up this cute little pincushion!
Pincushions make such great gifts for anyone who sews!
They are also cheap to ship!

Beautiful Birds is designed by Tracy Lizotte,
for Elizabeth's Studio,
I think it is a gorgeous whimsical collection
with birds and their homes perched in the trees!

I just started garment sewing in the last couple months and
Wanted to make another Spring Bess Tunic by Imagine Gnats
It has finally warmed up here (60 degrees) in
West Virginia the Cardinals are here
eating the dog's food right out of his bowl!
Never can catch them when I
have a camera but trust me they are.
I really love the "Beautiful Birds" designs and
my top came out nice but it still a little chilly
for me and short sleeves! So, in the closet for another month I think!

Please take the time to visit my fellow blogger in the blog hop for today!

Selfish Sewing Spring 2015/Le Challenge

Hello Everyone, I am so excited to participate in Selfish Sewing Week Spring 2015. Today I am sharing with you my new shirt made by me out of quilting cotton! You see I have never made myself any garments and have been intimidated by the thought. For 2 years I have listed one as a goal to complete a garment for myself, goal met! Hoot hoot! Years ago, I tried to make a shirt and ended up throwing it away half cutout. All the little markings confused me then.
But with a wee bit of help I actually sewed it up pretty easily
(patting myself on the back)!

Pattern: Bess Top
Designer: Imagine Gnats (Rachael Gander)
Get it
Bess Top Printed Pattern (here) and Digital (here)
Fabric: Botanics design #14258, Carolyn Friedlander, Robert Kaufman (Quilting Cotton)
Aurifil Thread: #4093 (perfect match)
I love how Aurifil colors always match the designers fabrics.
They have a color for everything!

Cutting the pattern out, taping, and pinning it together, was quite simple. (Shock on my face)

This week was such a positive learning experience.
I enjoyed learning each step especially about making pockets!

Even with the excellent directions included with the pattern the Y seams were intimidating until I made the first one. I was surprised by the "ah ha moment" that came when the sleeve was done!

The hardest part for me was sewing my recycled (strips from Randy's old t-shirt) knits to the collar, armholes, and to hem the bottom of the shirt. It may not be the greatest job but it does work very well!

Especially when I was marathon pinning it all on and was almost through when I realized "oh crap", I had pinned it all to the wrong side. I was a little discouraged at that point and posted to Instagram to find out - it happens to other people too!
Just that made me feel so much better to know I wasn't the only one!

It is amazing what a little encouragement can do for all of us!

So here is me, at 50 years old (51 on the 29th) with a new "Passion" - Garment Sewing! Hey, that is the topic for Le Challenge #20 - Passion I will link up with those lovely ladies and tell them about my new passion in life! You are never to old to learn new tricks and garment sewing is really rewarding. Have you tried something new lately? Tell us about it!

My how I love pockets in my shirt! I will be sewing up a few more shirts for Summer and I am putting pockets in them all!
I think my stash might be in trouble!

Thank you so much for stopping by!

ALYOF - March 2015 Goal

I enjoy meeting up with the other bloggers
twice a month for
A Lovely Year Of Finishes!
Setting a goal each month
encourages me to complete
at least one project.

This month maybe hard for many depending were you live!
I hope all of you are safe and warm.

Hubby and I left home early to go to
a quilting retreat and have had lovely accommodations
at Cliffview Resort

But we got snowed in and the retreat
didn't happen! The roads re blocked but we are trying to go home today!
You may not here from me for a little while our power is out!

while it stormed outside Randy and I had a wonderful time with a resort all to ourselves. You can see here Cliffview Resort guided tour!

I will be digging in my
Cotton and Steel Stash during the month of March!

I am here suppose to be sewing so I decided I better work on the mini for my partner for the Cotton and Steel Mini Quilt Swap on Instagram ! If you are on Instagram - I would truly appreciate it if you would follow me, I am at 499 followers currently. Just need a little help to get over the hump.

My goal is to sew, quilt, and bind this mini for the month of March 2015!

Be safe!
Be warm!
Be happy!
Be Unique!

Thank you for stopping by!

Show Me Your Stash

Show Me Your Stash

Everywhere lately I see "Show Me Your Stash" and frankly I am a little embarrassed to show anyone my stash. But last night after seeing a Craftsy Giveaway #SecretStash Contest ! I decided to take some pictures and label it my Secret Stash and share it with my friends around the world!

Every time you see photos of a famous quilter's sewing room, fabric stash, threads, or even their bookcase everything is nice and neat. Nothing out of place and spotless! I would spend more time cleaning than sewing.

This from the woman who does even have a sewing room! I sew on the kitchen table, taken it over really! Don't get me wrong I admire and love all these ladies! I also admire their beautiful collections!

I love my stash just as much and you should love yours too!
Whether it is big or small kept in a trash bag,
don't be afraid to show what you have.
Work with what you have!

To enter the Craftsy Giveaway, just take a great picture or several of your stash and follow the directions Here

Why because you might win a prize and a class!
I love Craftsy courses and their supplies to buy!
(Just so you know I am not affiliated with Craftsy in any way)!

Due to disabilities I cannot lift anything heavy
so the containers I use are just perfect to carry around!
Most of my fabrics are sorted by designers!
Though some are by color
and a few are just 1/4 yards of everything thrown in together.
The totes with organic fabrics that I use for Zoey's clothes are in here too!
I will say I buy most fabrics in 1/2 yards and on sale.

My working fabric basket is from a yard sale!
It holds a lot of fabric!
(I clean it out after each project usually)
(I Spy a bit of Indeliable by Katarina Roccella)

Now, this my Friends
this is my scrap bag
and I dig in it all the time!
I do clean it out a couple times a year
and give the scraps to friends!

My sewing space is a bit messer than I would like it.
I have been sewing quite a bit lately making
things to take to the Retreat

My Sew together bag (made by Susan @
The Bored Zombie
holds all my favorite tools! Aurifil 50 wt. threads laying there waiting to be put away or used!

My reading from the Library for the next two weeks! I may not read every page but I try to look through new books when they come in to see what is trending! Sometime just looking at all the ideas is so inspiring!

Thank you for seeing the mess that is me
and excepting me for who I am
and not for what I have in my stash!

Like my stash I am beautiful at times and at others a mess.
