Fruitcake Friend

Thearica @ Pig Tales and Quilts makes a tasty fruitcake!

My mother is 70 years old and came to live with us, 8 years ago, when we moved to our isolated home in West Virginia to help us raise David. I was so sick in those days I think a big part was to help care for me. One of the things I learned was she loved fruitcake and prior to living with us would hunt around in the city at Christmas time for just the right blend of all those delicious ingredients and buy just the right one to enjoy through the holidays. I make it my mission each year to get her one as a small gift to thank her for all she does for our family.

When Thearica was giving away fruitcake as a giveaway all I could think of was I had to win. Sadly, I did not but she is so sweet she sent me one anyways. Yesterday, when the mail-woman showed up with a box marked perishable marked on the outside my Mom was quite interested in what might be inside. I said "I don't know, why don't you open it"! When she pulled it out of the box my husband said "what is it"? My Mom got a big smile on her face and said "FRUITCAKE, all the way from North Carolina, can we eat it"? So we ate a good part of it and it is delicious! It made my Christmas to see my Momma smile and be so happy!

I owe you Thearica big time! Thank You from the bottom of my heart!

  1. I love fruitcake! I recall from my time in America that over there fruit cakes tend to be something of a joke, so shopping for a good one must be quite a challenge! I've heard many great things about Thearica's cakes! I always look forward to the Christmas cake my mum makes (she used to post one over to America for me too!) and every year from the 1st December I bug her about whether it's time to start eating the cake yet .... of course I'm never allowed before Christmas Day (and midnight Christmas Eve doesn't count either, believe me I've treid that one!) .... enjoy your cake and what a wonderful present from Thearica :)

  2. I love fruit cake and ,y ,mom, and I both bake fruit cakes every year. Although this will be the first time in at least 20 years I have not baked one. But that is ok....Their is all ways next year. I usually bake 3 ..1 to enjoy over the holidays . One to cut into sections and share with my siblings and one to cut up into slices and freeze for me to take out throughout the year to enjoy with a cup of coffee...And Giles you are so right. Good fruit cake is hard to come by...I have had fruitcake that people have made before that is just plain nasty..lol...I am so glad your mom was able to get some good fruitcake to enjoy this year.

  4. I am so glad that your mom was able to open the box herself and I can just imagine the smile on her face when she realized what was inside. That makes me as happy as anything will this Christmas. :)

  8. What a terrifically nice thing Thearica did for you/your Mom! I haven't made fruit cake in years, probably because I'm the only one I know who likes it. If I can ever get re-settled, think I'll make a fruitcake.
    Merry Christmas!
