Stitch On Prints Experiment and Aurifil Giveaway

Giveaway Closed!

Stitch on Prints

Welcome to "In The Boon Docks"! 2014 is going to be the year of Experiments. "Stitch on Prints" is taking a turn from hand stitching only to include experiments in the use of different weights of threads along with varying stitch sizes on your personel sewing machine to create unique looks!

The Giveaway of (2) 12 wt spools of thread is provided by Aurifil
. Please visit our sponsor sales links provided below when you need a new spool.

The other day when I was looking at the Aurifl site and I found this tidbit Aurifil 12 wt Embellishment and Sashiko dreams! I began to experiment with the machine settings, needles, threads and loved the texture of the heavier thread stitched with a sewing machine.

Here is what I did to create this look!

I used these setting on my new Juki Exceed Home Decor HZL-F300 that my wonderful hubby bought me for Christmas. What a killer deal that was and better left for another time.

Changed the needle to a 100/16 needle, loaded Aurifil 12 wt #5005 (Medium Turquoise) to the top spool and Aurifil 50 wt #5005 in the bobbin! I am so tickled with the results!

Edge Sewing Presser Foot - I set the needle position to the left and used the guide of the foot to follow the line were I stitched the 2 1/2" strips together!
Note: if you do not have this foot you can use your straight stitch foot!

Beautiful perfect stitches for a couple projects I was working on for Christmas for my oldest daughter Ashley.

The 2 1/2" strips started out as fat quarters, so 22" long. I made (2) quilted panels.

I purchased my fabrics from Cuts of Cotton - Minimalista/Turquoise & an Aqua/Chartreuse FQ Bundles and my threads are all Aurifil!

As you can see the thread really stands out! A pouch for her makeup and one for that little important junk
(gum, change, etc..) a woman keeps in her purse, made from the scraps leftovers after I made her purse!

My daughter Ashley and my grandson David! My husband and I took David to visit his mom and give her a Christmas! She loved the purse and pouches!

  39. Good Morning, I am a new today follower. I found you in a FB post, showing off the threads on this quilt top. I was intrigued to see how it was done. I haven't as yet used this tread, however would be 'liking' to use it, perhaps to enhance raw edge appliques. I do love a giveaway

  40. Ah! another chance too win. A quilt along, & BOM's are a great way to try new ideas, and I've read the information on January's designer, Bridgitte, of Zen Chic has been linked with several you tube videos I've watched. One designer in a world of fabrics, what's not to love.

  41. I do not do hand stitching, I use several machines to sew my projects. I have used a 12 wt thread to accent, with top stitching on bags and totes. I love the way that adds a design element in matching or contrasting thread. Now to use it on a jelly roll quilt I am not particularly happy with.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I machine stitch but interested in your machine techniques. I have never tried 12 wt but would like to give it a go and see if I can do it. I once tried using floss and hand wound my bobbins then that got too tedious and just pulled up from my lap through the bobbin, not that smooth, so I gave up until I see this, maybe I will give it a try, do I need a special machine needle?

  82. Visiting my son here in NE but I am from WV. I tried to get onto your blog a few days ago but hit a glitch. I have a question..I am thinking of another machine for use in quilting. I like to freemotion but need a l larger throat space than my Bernina offers. Juki seems to be at the top of my list but I am unsure since there is no local dealer. Would you reccommend Juki as far as quality stitches are cancerned?
