County Fair

The Cabell County Fair
has come and gone!
But the Ribbons they left behind
continue to brighten my day!

I hope others quilters participate
in their local fair!
It is the best place to learn about Judges.
Some are kind and very helpful.
Then others are rude and downright mean.

But in reality they have no control over
anything just a Ribbon and sometimes cash prizes.
Our fair cash prizes are $2 for first place and $1 for second.
I have no plans to let a Judge decide my fate in the quilt world.

I love these canvas fabrics I found in a box at a quilt shop. Very bright Pink, Orange, an a yellowish green, sounds like it might not go together but I think it sewed together beautifully!

I used two Aurifil 12 wt. threads
#2530
#2235
to add "In The Boon Docks"

Anna Marie Horner
ribbon
5/8" Gold Arrow Feathers.

I love Aurifil threads and their company
so when someone ask me what Aurifil
is I tell them "The best thread you can use for quilting
or sewing with the most brilliant
colors you will ever see"!

A great quilted bag to carry my Library books
in or all my sewing odds and ends.
I was ecstatic to get a
Blue Ribbon in the Bag Catagory.

I was really excited to receive a
Blue Ribbon on Zoey's April Showers dress in
the Sewing Category!

David's "Lorax" quilt
Blue Ribbon in it's size catagory!

The triangle quilt received a
Red ribbon because I sewed
the binding on with my sewing machine.
(even after I picked out my quilting and had it professionally quilted)

The quilt I made for Modern Yardage
received a Red ribbon because
I had washed it and the judge
said it had faded.
I disagree but the judge word is final!

As a person who grew up mostly in cities
I find it quite comforting to participate in the Cabell County Fair!

Drop you items off on Monday
and by Tuesday afternoon you know
if you have a ribbon or not.

I was so excited to have placed at all!

So try it out and have some fun!

Respectfully,
Lisa

  2. Congratulations! I did not enter a quilt in the county fair, but after attending and only seeing about 13 I most definitely will dip my toe in those waters next year.

  5. Congratulations, Lisa! Beautiful work (as always!) and it's cool to get to share what you've made like this. I've never thought of entering anything like this, but you're making me think about it!

  6. We don't have that type of county fair. It is a shame because I would probably enter a quilt in something like that. My self imposed rule is 'don't compete.' Just do it because you want to do it.

  7. Congratulations List on all your ribbons! Maybe some day I will be able to enter something in our county fair!

  9. Our local fair is the state fair so the process is a little more daunting that drop off on Monday done by Tuesday, but not much! I'm hesitant to enter quilts this year because the ones that came back last year smelled like fair, not in a good fresh fried dough way either. I did manage to get the stink off so it's tempting. We'll see. I have several choices of entries should I give it a go. :)

Congrats on all of your wins! It's nice to be recognized. :)

  12. Congratulations on the ribbons, such interesting rules, I would definitely not get a blue ribbon then if they don't allow machine binding. and the washing of the quilt interesting, I would think that would be a bonus not a minus.

  13. Congratulations on your ribbons. I like your attitude toward judging. =) I haven't seen anything around here about the county fair, though I know there is one somewhere and somewhen.
