Handmade Gift for the Kitchen

Image
Hanging Dishtowels I like to make handmade items to give at Christmas that the recipient can use year round. Hanging dishtowels fit in this category and can be as hard or easy as you want to make it. You get two hanging dishtowels out of one towel so it is a twofer, which is great if you need to make a lot of gifts, keeps the cost down! I found a great free Pattern by Mara Drogan That I changed up a bit and am very happy with the results! Please send me a picture if you make some. First change I made to the pattern after I printed it and before I cut it out was to add two inches from the tab to the bottom of the page for pattern piece 2. Then I cut both pieces out and taped them together. This gave me a long enough fold over flap to attach to my oven door. It also changed the fabric length from 7" x 12" to 7" x 14" Since I was working with fat quarters I did not prewash my fabric but did wash the dishtowels before I cut them! Next, instead of flannel I used ...

Project Teen Class

Image
This last Saturday, I went to Quilter's Square , in Lexington, KY, and took a class with Melissa Mortenson of Polkadot Chair ! I was really excited to meet Melissa, she is a super talented Blogger, Author, and Designer! We received her book Project Teen as part of the class which was wonderful that Kela, Quilter's Square, set it up that way. If you are like me with a 9 years old at home this book is perfect! New ideas for the older child in your house! I am making the study pillow and putting it under the Christmas tree with his new set of books! I plan on making a few other projects in the book for my niece too! It is a must have book for any Sewist collection! The Study Pillow I picked the fabrics based on what I hope David would like but I just could not help myself and used Tula Pink line Moonshine and a mix of Cotton + Steel Basics Melissa was nice enough to sign all our books and write a personal note to each of us. Inspiration is everywhere at Quilter...

ALYOF November Goal

Life is amazing, no matter how much preplanning I do lately things just are not getting done. I decided I would post them anyways here for the record! I was going to enter this Flowering Snowball mini quilt into Amy's Creative Side Blogger's Quilt Festival Fall 2014 I went out two weeks ago and took some beautiful photos! I completed my ALYOF October Goal for Sew BitterSweet Designs and again missed the deadline! But I did make the deadline for World Book Media who took it to Quilt Market (yes, first time, very exciting, want to do it again)! I made this cute little fabric basket for David's sweet 4th grade teacher! I admire men and women who can teach a room full of 9 and10 years old! For I think I would go Buggers (hi, Lucy)! One is enough for me! Since grossing me out lately is his entertainment. So for November I am going to try and get my self together and meet my next deadline! The IG Mini Swap! I have it narrowed down to these two patterns! I just got my ...

Sponsor News I was saddened to hear that Pink Chalk Fabrics is doing a storewide liquidation of everything but patterns! It is an ending of an era but the beginning of a new chapter in Kathy Mack's life. I know she will do well in whatever she focus' on because she is very smart and creatively talented. But I will miss her and her wonderful staff! Thank you Pink Chalk Fabric for taking such good care of us at In the Boon Docks! You have been an wonderful sponsor!
