QuiltCon Challenge Block

Image
A couple months ago I won the QuiltCon Kona Cotton Solids FQ Set from Pink Chalk Fabrics it is still available for $18.95. I was very surprised when I won and knew then I would have to enter, I had no excuse! Plus, the Kona solids in this set are really beautiful together. The only fabric I added was the stripe of Kona Cotton Solid "Snow". I challenge others in Blogland that are interested in the Modern Movement to create your one block and submit it before August 2012. Who knows it might end up on the QuiltCon Quilt or going to children who need to be kept warm next winter, either way you win the satisfaction that you tried it. There is also a Flickr site on the main page to look at all the blocks being submitted. This is my QuiltCon Challenge Block called "Fractured", I don't know if I should really name a block or not but this time I did. I got the idea for it from the Craftsy BOM. QuiltCon is being presented by the The Modern Quilt Guild . I am a m...

Meet my little friend who lives by my porch! The best thing about toads is the eat bugs, so do little lizards, we have those too but as of yet, I haven't gotten a picture of one. Why because they are to fast. Mr. Toad was sunning himself this morning when I snapped these photos. Craftsy BOM Block 10 is a Wonky 5-Sided Log Cabin I have all May's blocks done now! Woot, woot! I know, I know it is June. Look for Junes two blocks next week. I want you to know I did follow all the directions and still ended up with a 4 sided block. How did that happen? BEETS, anyone for beets! UPDATE

Image
UPDATE ! The two men in these pictures are my father-in-law and my husband. They did help us a lot and did some jar packing. We are lucky women to have these two men in our lives! Love you honey! Well I haven't got much sewing done this week. The little ones allergies had him coughing, so the doctor is where we went Monday morning. His Dr. Is a nice woman, has six kids of her own, and a lot experience. She put him on Singular at night and he is doing better. On the way home, we stopped at the park and walked around the lake, until we got a call for cheesecloth from my mother-in-law, she had beets, a lot of them. Could we please stop by with cheesecloth and help. She had (5) five gallon buckets of beets. There is a lot of work to canning beets. Washing, cut tops to 2", boil once until the skins will slide off, cool in cold water. Cut the rest of the top off, then peel (if they have boiled long enough most of the skins will slide right off) don't boil to much or they...

Sophie's Twister

Image
Sophie's Twister Is #81 at Ellison Lane Summer Sewing Contest This quilt was a labor of love for me. The idea of cutting up a quilt after you had just sewn it together was mind-boggling but the results are well worth the additional effort. I used the " Lil Twister " ruler on this project. I love Moda's Vintage Modern and the " Twister " rulers. I bought some more fabric and ordered the larger size "Twister" ruler from CS Designs before I finished the quilt. Sophie was born May 16, 2012, at the beginning of summer, so it only made since to enter " Sophie's Twister " in: Go to Ellison Lane Summer Sewing Contest and look at all the entries!

Go to the Quilting Gallery and become a Quilting Blogger

Image
I just went to the Quilting Gallery which is hosted by Pat Sloan and Michelle Foster. They have a huge database with links to thousands of blogs that all quilt. Last night I went on it looking around and found 8 other bloggers in my state. I like the idea of finding possible new friends who enjoy what I do to maybe go to a quilt show or sew with. So, follow the link, sign up, and grab a button! While at the Quilting Gallery take a look around, I like the Learning Center. They just started a Beginner's Quilt Along, if you want some extra fun join in. They also have a Weekly Quilting Contest and they always need quilts and help with the voting. I like it because you get to see quilts from all over the world and all the different styles. It is easy to do and you don't have to jump through a bunch of hoops to have fun at 1:00 am in the morning. Come on go check it out! When you join come back and leave a comment with your blog name on it and I will join any blogs I haven...

An exciting thing happened today

Image
My daughter came to visit today and we were sitting on the porch talking. When all of a sudden we heard what sounded like a hummingbird stuck in a coffee can. Loud buzzing if you live anywhere that has hummingbirds you know what I mean. So we started searching the porch and this is what we found!

Hawthorne Threads Pre-cut Sale

Image
Hi Everyone, I hope your all doing well. I have been busy shopping at Hawthorne Threads They have the latest and greatest fabric, a blog, a weekly giveaway, and terrific sales! I got everything you see here for less than $50.00. Enough to keep me busy for a little while. So, next time you are looking for a great deal head over there and look in the pre-cut sale section and clearance section. Oh, this is just my opinion, nobody sponsors me. I just like beautiful designer fabric and don't have a lot of money. I look for good bargains where I can find them and I consistently find them at Hawthorne Threads. Thought I would pass this along to my friends out in blogland. Have a good week! Later I will show you my progress on Miss Sophie's quilt. Later Lisa
