Stitch on Prints and a Giveaway

Image
Giveaway Closed Winner Lou When I got the opportunity to make a pattern designed by Madam Samm of Sew We Quilt I jumped at the chance! I just love participating in the blog hops originating from her blog. The her Tammy Bag is gorgeous and just what I need to keep my Aurifil 12 wt. thread in with my little needle book and scissor case! These are my three fabrics I chose to make the " Tammy Bag ". I wanted a medium to large print (Beachfront Cottage by RJR Fabrics) for my outside (to stitch on) and a contrasting print (marbly fabric by Northcott) for the inside. The diamond gold fabric (Hoffman California International Fabrics) is my rebellion from the pattern for the piping on the outside pockets. I have had these fabrics in my stash for about 4 or 5 years. Do you ever save fabric you love to find just the right project for it? I am hoping this will be beautiful! I love the seashells! This will be one of the outside pockets when I am done. Just so you know I will

We have a Winner

Happy Memorial Day I hope you have all enjoyed your holiday weekend if you are in the United States! If you are not I still hope you had a great weekend. I worked the whole weekend helping my Mom with a yard sale. We got rid of a lot of unneeded stuff! All the big stuff sold and most of the little stuff! The "Goodwill" boxes are packed in her car to leave us tomorrow! Yippee! When we moved here in 2005 we combined (2) household and a storage room. A lot of items did not fit in our current home and ended up in our garage. Boxes stacked to the ceiling! I was very ill from my accident at the time so my friends and family packed everything (I mean everything trash and all). I am still not in the greatest shape physically but my mind works. Anyways, I spent all weekend going through boxes! The best item I found was a box of Christmas cards from 1988 and in it was a precious little handprint of my then 3 year old, oldest daughter, now (27). It made me tear up looking

May Book Challenge

Image
If you have not entered the "What's It Look Like " Giveaway Welcome to "In The Boon Docks". For the month of May Book Challenge I made a pincushion for a swap partner using the patterns from pages 19 & 24 from Zakka Style by Rashia Coleman-Hale! I was gifted this book by my wonderful Australian friend Rie at CraftyRie for Christmas. It is amazing to how many bloggers begin lifelong friendships from one comment! I know it is true, Rie and I have and we have never met! Enough of that! The book is awesome so many great projects! I recommend it to anyone who sews or wants to begin sewing! It inspires you to be creative and think outside the box! On page 19, it showed about attaching Vintage Buttons to your pincushions. So, I dug around in my stash until I found the perfect one! The pincushion on the front of the book is what I started out making and ended up with a completed different look! Heart of Charnwood Book Challenge Thank you for dropping by

Blogger's Quilt Festival

Image
Hi everyone, I am number 37 over Bloggers Quilt Festival: Throw Quilts . Please go take a look and Vote! To vote this year you have to copy and paste the blog address in the vote box! I am submitting this quilt into the "Throw Category" because when I originally made it in December this is what I said about it! "Well last week I was working on a throw quilt for my new granddaughter to be born in January. I finished the top on Monday! I call it a throw quilt because I want it thrown on the floor/ground before the baby is put down on the floor or in the grass outside. Put it on the couch before you put the baby on it. A quilt you can take in the car and wash it when you get home. A barrier between the baby and the world. A baby wrapped in love! Yes, it is a little sappy!" At the baby shower my daughter was expecting burp cloths! She knows I feel every new mom cannot live without them. She was mighty surprised to find Zoey's quilt in the bag! It made her cry seei

Le Challenge

Image
This month's challenge was "Wings" so guess what has wings? Birds! So I submit to the Le Challenge Group I am excited to show you what I made! Working to create a little texture for my birdies I used Aurifil Thread 12 wt. It is wonderful to use to hand stitch, embroider, or cross-stitch. I fussy cut the birds out of this cute fabric "Just Hanging" and went to work stitching. The stitches really look great on printed fabric designs. I am new to embroidery and can't do it for a long time but I really love the way it looks. I hope you do too! The basket pattern I used I have blogged about before, so you can find out about it HERE , if you would like to know more. It is a great pattern! Thank you for stopping by In The Boon Docks" and please visit in the future! Create and be unique, Lisa

It's for the Birds

Image
Hi! Welcome to "In The Boon Docks"! At our house we have lots of birds flying, eating and running around. Some days the wild turkeys come down and eat up the chicken feed for my Rooster and three hens that live here on our property. I have (6) pullets (bigger than a chick but smaller than a hen) that I have raised from chicks that live in a "hen house". Cardinals, bluejays, nut hatches, and many more birds nest on the hill behind our house. Can you tell I like birds? Well I do! So when Madam Samm announced this blog hop I just had to sign up! Her blog hops are so popular that if you don't sign up quick you never get in. The challenge is trying to come up with ideas to excite the readers and please the Madam! She is very nice but expects your best! I am kind of worried this time her "It's for the Birds" and mine aren't quite the some. But she is very generous and always cheers us on! Thank you Madam Samm and our cheerleader Mary fr
