FQS National Quilting & Sewing Month

The challenge by the Fat Quarter Shop was to make something you haven't made before. I decided I would reduce the size of the pattern from charm squares (5") to use Moda mini charms (2 1/2") and make a quilted pillow!

17" x 17"
Fabric: Hubba Hubba,
Me and My Sister Designs Moda Mini Charms
Thread: My favorite - Aurifil White #2024

I always see beautiful quilted pillows everywhere but never made one. So happy I did because now I will be making them throughout the house!

Free Pattern available Color of My Heart Quilt Pattern

Daniar, Fat Quarter Shop, asks each blogger to answer a few questions. So, here goes!

1. How did you start quilting/sewing?

I had always wanted to learn but had no one to teach me. Roughly about seven years ago, (I am lousy about time), I met a local quilt shop owner Michelle Hill who told me she would help me learn. From there I began looking for tutorial on the internet and reading books and trying new techniques.

2. When was the first time you knew that you were a quilter?

I entered the county fair and won "Best of Show" before that no one really took me serious as a quilter including myself. Lots of mistakes but some great fun. Never be afraid of trying new things.

3. Do you have any sewing/quilting horror stories or Faux pas?
Does sewing the tablecloth to my quilt count? Spent an hour picking it out! Distracted sewing!

4. What advice would you give to someone who's just starting out sewing/quilting?

- Read your sewing machine manual from cover to cover.
- Look up anything you don't understand on the internet.
- Buy quality fabric (on sale, it is no more expensive than the bargain stores)!
- Get a 1/4 foot for your sewing machine!

Most important Keep trying!

Do forget to visit Lucy at Charm About You the other blogger for today! The list of bloggers for this week is on the Jolly Jabber

She is quite happy with my new pillow!

Around The World Blog Hop

Around The World Blog Hop

If you have been following along,
It really has been all over the world
and I have enjoyed reading them all!

My name is Lisa and Welcome to "In The Boon Docks"
I was very happy to be asked to participate
Lea Anne of Podunk Pretties!

Lea Anne is very talented quilter, has a beautiful blog and is a quilt pattern designer. Best thing is her patterns are free (not for much longer probably), yes she is that good! My personal favorite is Cherry on Top Picnic Quilt

I have been told that I live in
"Gods Country"
out here in a little corner
of West Virginia, USA

My husband and I
raise kids, animals, fruits and vegetables!
I a quilter, the kind that pieces quilt tops together!
I sew making small, medium, and large projects!

Question 1: What am I working on?
I just finished the Flowering Snowball Mini Quilt above it incorporated working with curves, and hand quilting, both out of my comfort zone. I'll just say, I will do more curves in the future, and leave it at that! I just completed a project for one of my sponsors that I can't reveal until Wednesday, (9/18), so I hope you come back and have a look.

Ok, I'll show you the back! I have sewn for almost 8 years and I backed this project in one of the first fabrics I ever bought, by Susan Branch in 2007! She does such wonderful things with watercolors!

Below is my next project!

Question 2: How does my work differ from others of its genre?

As a blogger I am not trying to make money. I have blog buttons but no ads. I do try to find high quality items to giveaway to the public. My target area - anyone.
Without anyone being left out, mailing costs make that harder to do!

I write about what I find interesting
hoping any reader will relate.
Sometime I bomb but I do try.

In quilting and sewing, I am all over the place.
I see something and want to make it!
It does not matter if t is modern or traditional.
I am a fabric addict I have to admit
All the rest, kids, animals, growing, gardening, canning, and life!

A happy snapshot of my life shared in a positive light!

I wonder if I fit into any genre?

Question 3: Why do I write/create what I do?

Because I love it! From baby chicks to a new quilt I find it all interesting! Somethings are not share worthy but sometimes even those issues need to covered!

Question 4: how does my writing/creating process work?

Photography - it all comes down to pictures!
I see a picture of something and say "I can make that"!
I take a picture of canning peach jam and go from there!

Now, it is my turn to invite three more bloggers
to participate in the Around The World Blog Hop.
All three are talented artists in the world
and I am honored to know them all.
Each of them are professional, creative, and unique individuals!
I can't wait for you to meet them on September 22, 2014.

September 11, 2014 We all need to Remember

I found this news blog from another part of the world that shows why we cannot forget!

30 pictures of 9/11 that show you why you should never forget!

It is hard to scroll through the photographs
When history is ignored it repeats!

We cannot allow terror to rule our lives!

So scroll through and send a prayer (good thought) to all those people,
their families, and friends!

A Nation 13 years later still in mourning!

Thank you, Lisa

See You In September and Giveaways

Welcome back blog hoppers!
I really have missed you!
That includes you Madam Samm, Sew We Quilt (Head Couch) and
Shari Living With Purpose (Head Cheerleader)!
So glad to be back and hopping around myself!
Thank you both for all the work
you both did putting this one all together!

Hello Everyone!
You are at "In The Boon Docks" and I am Lisa!
Come on in and have a look around
and see what I spent the last couple months doing!

See you in September!
(It is now time)
Day 1

3 projects

Project 1
Riley Blake Designs Gingham.

I started searching through my stash
and found the blue medium gingham
and this great matching blue with white polka dots!
I used small blue gingham on the inside for the lining!

Strawberries are really popular
on Instagram lately and the red made for great contrast!
I found these two strawberries on a scrap of fabric and ironed on

HeatnBond Lite by therm-o-web.
Cut them out, peeled the back off,
and ironed them on my front panel!

Then using Aurifil 50 wt. threads sewed around the appliqué!

I even found some red gingham ribbon for the pull!

I think it makes for a cute pouch
to keep Miss Zoey's hair clips
and ponytail holders in!

This second pouch
I straight stitch machine quilted
for my cousin's wife!
Like some of you - she is a cat lover!
The second I opened the envelope
a friend sent me and saw this strip
of Cats I just knew I had
to make something for Teresa!
It is made from all scraps!
Hope she loves it!

I learned to sew curves by making the
Flowering Snowball Mini Quilt Kit!
I am still working on the hand quilting!

I made a few Coffee Koozie's with the Fat Quarter Shop!

I spent time reading,
and one of my favorites is
15 Minutes Of Play
by Victoria Findlay Wolfe!

I made a block of made fabric (her word) with the scraps
from the mini and then cut it into a hexagon!
Girls just need to play sometimes!
It was really a good read it if you get a chance

Please stop by and see all the other bloggers for today!

Flowering Snowball

While on Instagram one night I found an online shop
to buy some Cotton and Steel

Stitch Supply Co
and it has kits available for making this
15" x 15" "Flowering Snowball" mini quilt for $12.
The kit included the paper templates,
fabric for the front and binding!

Stitch Supply Co. is Ann (owner) dream coming true.
One step at a time on an exciting adventure.
(She also has some other free mini patterns available for download)!

Now, if I can try a new technique
for that cost I am all into it!

This wonderful hobby as we know it
can get quite expensive for a project
and then we find that we cannot
do it properly and quit.
Into the UFO pile,
got any of those my friends!
Sewing curves was not to bad
and I loved the results!

It went from a pile of beautiful
Cotton + Steel
to my
fantastic 15" x 15"
Flowering Snowball Mini Quilt

I am not afraid of curves anymore!
This kit makes it easy to learn!

The longest thing has been hand quilting!
But I just don't think I would have gotten
the quilting detail that
I have with machine quilting!

I have noticed an improvement
in my hand quilting since
undertaking this project!

You can see in the photo above how
my stitches are sloppier and
larger than in the photo below!

The stitches begin to look more uniformed
as I spend more time observing what
is happening on both sides
of the quilt!

Ann from Stitch Supply Co
has offered to giveaway a
Flowering Snowball Mini Quilt Kit!
Is that the greatest!
