Dare to Dresden

Image
Dare to Dresden Blog Hop Welcome to "In The Boon Docks", I am Lisa and I am forever creating something! You never know what you might find when you stop in here. Today is Day 3 of the Dare to Dresden blog hop sponsored by Madam Samm @ Sew We Quilt and Cheerleader Christine @ Quilt Monster In My Closet Thank you both for your excellent advice and giving us all a place to showcase our work! I have lived off-line since January 10th due to the living in KY with my daughter and her fiancé waiting for the arrival of my granddaughter. I then stayed to help my daughter for the last week. I arrived home today around 6 pm. I had my sewing machine and a few thing but I didn't have my dresden ruler so my first attempt at making my own I went a little wrong. So I chopped off the triangle point and started again. These cutting mats (3 in a pack) are cheap and great for making templates! You might want to pick up a pack next time you go to Walmart! See this is how they look wh...

Pouch for Princess

Image
Woke up this morning to find all the tree's frozen. After my daughter saw the new pouch she had to have her own for herself! The ornamental fabric that I used inside the pouch and on the front id B45-LP!-P07, 2011 Brother Sister Design Studio. I find Pellon Fusible Interfacing, for light to medium weight fabrics is excellant to iron on in between the layers. You should try it yourself! These owls just scream "Happy" for my daughter's pouch the fabric is B34-OL!-P05, 2009 Brother Sister Design Studio. Besides I love these owls too! Thank you for stopping by "In The Boon Docks" we are all excited about tomorrow (Thursday) to see the OB Doctor hoping he help "Zoey" on her way. Please pray, send good thoughts, or anyway you commune with our creator for a healthly baby and mommy. My greatest concern right now. Forever sewing, Lisa

Linen or Not

Image
Recycle, Repurpose, Reuse I have looked for a linen tablecloth in thrift shops for months. I cannot justify the cost of linen until I am a better sewist. I found one for $5.00 at the local thrift store here in Ky. Now to cut it up and making pouches and see how I like working with it. If it is not really linen please tell me so! I am in love Type , by Julia Rothman, Windham W Fabrics! I spent 10 years as a Yeoman (secretary) in the US Navy and typed on a typewriter just like that one back in the 1980's. The butterflies are so pretty in Metro , Half Moon Modern, Moda. Both lines went so well with my cut up tablecloth don't you think? Thank you for stopping by "In The Boon Docks" temporarily displaced in Kentucky. Please keep praying for a health Mommy and Baby! Forever Sewing, Lisa!

Spent Time Creating

Image
I spent time making Ollie (daughter's dog) a bed and some toys out of scraps. The flower looking toys are just the scraps from burp cloths stacked up and sew down the center 3 or 4 times. "Ollie" throws them around and plays with them. I bought the fabric for his bed at a thrift store for $2.00 and he is actually laying on it. The Baby Burp Cloths Pattern I always use is a free download from That Patchwork Place . All the flannel is very cute, soft, great quality, and bought at JoAnn fabric and craft stores. My daughter was really pleased because she picking out the fabric over the last 3 months. My favorite is this quilting cotton I bought somewhere by Deb Strain! Love the baby feet! Michael, Kristin, and I are walking a lot to get this baby moving. As we were walking through Walmart I told them if her water breaks grab a jar of "pickles" off the shelf and break it! I was kidding but I did hear that many times over the years. A visit on Monday to the m...

Out Of Touch

Image
Well Thursday our very pregnant daughter called saying she was having contractions 4 minutes apart pretty steady and her Dr. told her and her fiancé at her appt. that the baby was coming in the next 48 hours. Please come now she was afraid! So Friday the contractions slowed down, my husband had her out running around hoping they would start again. He will probably go back home Saturday to stay with David until Zoey is born if she doesn't make an appearance soon! Me? I will be right here. Michael works 12 hour days and my daughter is alone at home without a car. Funny thing is I don't drive! But sometimes in a woman's life she just needs her Momma! The look of relief on her face last night as she flew into my arms took me back to when she was little and in need. Well I have finished my halloween quilt for all the world to see and first thing my daughter's dog (Ollie) does is lay down on it! He knows a comfy spot when he see's it! The front (don't have ...

Zippers and Pouch

Image
I made my first pouch today (really 2 days ago), and cut my first zipper down! It is not perfect which goes to show you just because I write a blog doesn't mean I know always what I am doing. I am always interested in learning new skills by making mistakes. I used the FREE Cratsy Bag Making Basics with Kristin Link Reversible Tote & Zipper Pouch is excellent. I also used a Craftbuds tutorial called: Easy Lined Zipper Pouch Tutorial. for additional information on zippers. See my mistake it didn't line up! Still useable! I was packing up my sewing things to go to our daughter's house (who has no internet - so I am not sure when I will get to someplace with wi-fi), back to my story. I took my new pouch and filled it with zippers. My husband comes by and picks it up and asked if he could have it! Big shock, he is very supportive of my sewing, quilting, blogging, swapping world wide, and spending his money, but never has he asked for something like for hisself...

Dress Up Onesies

Image
With my daughter receiving a lot of white plain Onesies I decided to dress some of them up! Babies spend most of their time living in them so lets have fun with them! Picked up this set for $2.00 at Walmart with patches and iron-ons. You can find iron-ons at any craft store. Follow the directions that come in the package! For a cotton ironing cloth just use a cotton scrap larger than the iron-on to place over the iron-on while you iron. Front! Back! My daughter did this one herself! On the sleeve! Anywhere you want! These look so much more exciting now than just boring old white. Total time to make about 30 minutes. Good way to dress up a shower gift! Whats' Up? Be sure to sign up for my blog anniversary GIVEAWAY I just entered Beauty & the Beast into the Quilting Galleries "Favourite Quilt of 2012" Quilters' Show & Tell . So don't forget to Vote this week! Why not enter your favorite today! . Thank you for reading "In The Boon Docks". ...

Thought Provoking Blog

Image
What are your talents? What are your gifts? Why should others look up to you? Do you ever find your self wondering about these things? I know I do and I put my answers in as "I can sew" as a talent. Instead of "caring of others" I sew to cover the ones I love and some I don't with my love in the form of a quilt. Finding the true talent! Recently my Orthopedic Massage Therapist and friend Angie started a blog about her battle with RA Angie's Life with Rheumatoid Arthritis . Not always your nice happy blog but her wisdom is incredible. Over the last 5 years she has kept me mobile from my injuries and my head on straight when I thought I was the only one. She never complains and is an expert in her job. Now, as she vigorously battles this disease she writes her observations on the world, life, and hope. While my injuries from almost 13 years ago are not life threatening they are crippling. Without the use of her talents I wouldn't be able to do so m...

Handmade Baby Shower Gifts

Image
I was really impressed with how many beautiful handmade gifts my daughter received yesterday at her baby shower. I thought I would share some of them with you! Next time you go to a shower it might inspire you to make a handmade gift! Well she was handmade by God! A crib sheet She really likes this gift (2 pieces of fabric stitch together and stitching around the outside). John Deere reminds her of home. Of course the baby's name stitch on it makes it extra special Kristin's friends mom made (2) crocheted sweaters with booties on the way! These are beautiful! One friend wrapped the diapers in a handmade crib sheet with a ribbon and bow. (Since crib mattresses are a standard size making them out of soft material will keep a baby's skin from chapping). I will ask for the pattern for to share. This is my first quilt finish in 2013! I bogged about it HERE My daughter was ecstatic with all her gifts purchased and handmade. Zoey will be here in less than 3 weeks! Thank you...

The Night Before A Baby Shower

Image
My husband left early this morning to drive the 2 1/2 hours to our youngest daughters house to pick her up and bring her home. He was home in time to take David to basketball practice. My little girl is very uncomfortable being large with child, just 3 weeks left! While the guys were gone she decided I needed my hair dyed red and laughed and giggled while fixing me up. It was well worth it to see her happy! Then we worked on table decorations for the shower. These are Martha Stewart Lanterns that I bought at Ollie's (3) in a box for $5.99. We used glitter chipboard for scrapbooking ($1.29) and glued them on with tacky glue. I made this little snuggle blanket using a picture from Amy Butlers Little Stitches for Little Ones . I should have used the pattern but I didn't! So, I learned "Minky" stretches when you sew it to cotton! Everything looked alright in the end but I wasn't so sure it wasn't going to become a UFO about 8:00 pm. My daughter thought...

Holidays are over?

Image
Not here! Look what my friend Rie @ Crafty Rie sent for Christmas! She has become one of my favorite pen pals (Momma calls it that and it works for me). I suppose I will add a few Zakka Style projects to my goals for 2013. Thank you Rie! Yes, I did scream Eek, when I opened this package! . Behind the awesome book is a bag of Cadbury "Freddo", chocolate frogs, which David just loves. Timtam's are my favorite, if I can keep everyone else in the house from finding them, they may make it a couple days. A FQ of unique fabric I have never seen before to pet! Yummy! The friends I have made through blogging are the best and have brought such Joy to my life. The blocks for Rosa from the flickr group Scrappy? Sew bee it! I finished up this morning (12) for her. Low Volume is more difficult than I thought it would be. I hope she likes them! Of course, I need a few for me for my ever growing block collection. I really wanted to use a few strips of this fabric I bought of...
